 A team of giants needs giant pitchers who throw good ideas but every pitcher needs an outstanding catcher. Without giant catchers, the ideas of the giant pitchers may eventually disappear.

 Ordinarily, they'd be in charge of catching kids their age and the young guys. Now they're on the fast learning curve.  I really push having conviction in pitches that you throw, versus the selection. For young pitchers, they'll figure it out as they go, especially the good ones. Over years of learning, I can't keep giving them information. They have to learn to process it themselves. Some guys learn faster than others, and some guys don't learn at all. Things can get confused if I try to do too much.

 We've had pitchers throw into the sixth inning in our last seven ball games. And he's set an example because his biggest problem last year was his conditioning. He ran out of gas a lot. But he's gotten stronger, and he's gotten a little more bite on his slider, and that's given him a lot more confidence when he comes to the mound. That's the biggest difference in his game this year.

 The most difficult thing has been getting to know the pitchers. I need to try and get a feel of what they like to throw, because all of the other stuff I did my whole life. I never forgot how to catch or throw or anything like that.

 It was a risky throw. But our best guy was throwing it to our best catcher. It was the right thing to do.

 If I'm playing in that gold medal game, I want to play Canada. I want to beat the best team, and I want to beat them. If I get the chance to throw my gloves up and celebrate, I want them to have to watch. I've had my share of time having to watch them.

 I told Josh that's going to be the biggest thing for you is having a good catcher back there.

 The second time through the lineup went a little smoother. He was locating his fastball on both sides, and I started to figure out the way he likes to throw. It took a couple of innings.
