 We welcome moves towards reforms such as these, but it remains to be seen whether they will lead to better quality trials and a significant reduction in the number of people sentenced to death. Whatever their impact, they must not be seen as a substitute for more wide-ranging reforms aimed at the complete abolition of the death penalty in China.

 The reality of trade with China continues to fall short of the potential. If our economic relationship is to stay afloat, China needs to lighten the load by carrying out reforms and delivering results.

 While China's economy has become more and more market-oriented, China's political system remains single-party rule or dictatorship, and this is the very root of all the talk about a China threat.

 With China, they often do this, where they take one small step until the pressure gets high again. It's unlikely that China is really going to move aggressively to slow their economy. It would take aggressive moves in order to make an impact on China's growth at this point.

 As the United States' $12 trillion-per-year economy becomes increasingly integrated with China's 1.3 billion-person economy . . . trade and investment will continue to grow, creating jobs and increasing prosperity in both the United States and China.
