 I believe that now is a positive time to make the transition to a new commissioner. We have a collective bargaining extension in place, long-term television contracts, and have undertaken many other strong elements in league and club operations.

 Now that he's got this Collective Bargaining Agreement done for another six years, I guess he feels like his job is complete. He probably wasn't going to still be on the job when the next contract came up, so this is probably a good time for him to walk away – with the league in very good shape financially because of the new TV contracts. He's done an unbelievable job as commissioner.

 Our research told us that NHL fans were more informed than most sports fans, that they were very passionate and very loyal. It showed us that almost unequivocally, fans were supportive of the league in its efforts to put an economic model in place for long-term stability, and that about 95% of fans said they would come back and support the league when it returned.

 I don't think it's best for the league and it doesn't make sense for the players or the league to not have a collective bargaining agreement. I don't feel confident — I'm always worried.

 This is beyond where Terrell Owens is. This affects all our players. It's why we have an issue with the language in these contracts. Things we're able to gain in collective bargaining, some clubs are finding a way to undermine them. That's also what this is all about,

 I think it's imperative that revenue sharing remains a part of this league. I think it'd be a sad day for this league if we blow this thing by going our own way. There are one or two owners gung ho about going their own way. But revenue sharing led to the collective bargaining agreement. It led to the salary cap. It's made us. It's sustained us.

 The benefits to both clubs are obvious. The quality of the A-League being what it is, this is a superb opportunity for players from Auckland to play at that level. This is a chance for our players to go into probably the most professionally-run club in the league.

 There is no league that can refurbish its rosters as quickly as this league, and I think the coaches have done that once again. The Southeast is as talent-laden as there is in the country. Coaches can go out and get (good) players rather quickly so it doesn't surprise me that our league is strong this year.

 It's very important to note that this is a league that's young, that continues to evolve and we make decisions that we think are in the best long-term interest of the league, ... We have added two new owners into this league both who are going to be in great markets and who at one point are going to be playing in soccer specific stadiums.

 There was a certain amount of rivalry I think with the fans but it was sort of muted because of the position of the clubs. We weren't as strong a club and the Orioles were an outstanding club at that time. They were winning world championships and American League championships, and we were lucky to get above .500.

 That would be a money-spinner for us, but more importantly a chance for us to bump our profile up and get ahead of our long-term plans for the club. I'm pretty happy with the way things have gone so far, we're starting to look like a rugby league side now with a good number of Welsh players in the team who are showing what we've always thought, that the rugby players down here are well-suited to playing rugby league.

 One of the really, really big reasons why the league has been so good is that it has had outstanding leadership. The commissioner has led the league through some real growth periods. Obviously they're going to lose a great man who has done a tremendous job – a tremendous job. That has to be one of the toughest jobs that anyone could ever deal with: the owners and the players and all the issues that come up with that. I can understand why he might have felt it was time to retire.

 If there is an NHL with replacement players, I think for me to be involved and to say that I would play in the league is not true. If the NHL is the real NHL with the best players in the world, for sure I want to play in it, but if it's a league of replacement players, it's not the real NHL. And with all the things going on right now with players and owners, it's not right and I don't think I'd be playing in a league like that.
