 People have to eat. The grocery store is an important part of every neighborhood.

 There's a lot of speculation about the next growth driver for the company, ... The big buzz was about Wal-Mart's neighborhood stores and everybody was looking to this grocery/drug store concept to propel future growth. Now Wal-Mart said it's slowed down the rollout of these stores.

 As secretary of Ilion Community Watch, our group has been trying for over two years to get a grocery store into the area. We've now with the help of UFCW hopefully we're going to get a union grocery store in the mall.

 This study of neighborhood conditions is especially important because it has investigated a relatively older population. Older people are much more sensitive to their environment. They rely on aspects of their immediate surroundings--how easy it is to get to the doctor or the grocery store or go for a walk--much more than younger people do.

 It's not likely that a grocery store will be built in this neighborhood. That's one of the reasons we're here helping -- these people need access to wholesome, fresh food.

 Before heading to the grocery store, sit down and plan meals and what food you need to buy at the grocery store. Also, plan meals that can cook in the crock pot while you're at work.

 Not far from my front door are five liquor stores and five or more churches. Things would be almost perfect if we had some restaurants here and a decent grocery store.
