We've been surprised how strong the golf-and-gaming stay-and-play business has been in the four other regions of the state since Katrina and this is good for the state and its people and businesses.

 The risk to crops and farms won't be as significant if it loses force, ... When you look at the lessons from Katrina, the eventual damage to agriculture was less than feared. The department of agriculture actually revised up its estimates of production in the state after Katrina passed.

 You've got the double whammy of Katrina and then Rita, ... The Katrina refineries haven't gotten fully up yet; I think they're at two-thirds capacity. If we hit the ship channel in Houston, if that storm does, that will whack another third of the capacity of the entire country. It's a huge risk for our state.

 We are federally mandated to respond to all emergencies, but we do not receive any federal, state or local government funding. We've sent all of our money out of state to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina, so we are in a big financial crunch right now.

A well-staffed call center will strengthen FEMA's ability to respond quickly to the pressing needs of the millions of people affected by Katrina.

 Hurricane Katrina is a wake-up call for our nation. It reminded us of the power of Mother Nature and the need for federal, state and local governments to always be prepared... As we go about rebuilding the Gulf Coast, we welcome the president's proposals as well as the thoughts of state and local leaders.

 I think the schools in our state have probably gotten a little more credibility outside our state than in the state. 'Our school is winning, but' - there's always a little asterisk by it. I think people around the country realize we're playing some pretty good basketball, but I'm not sure a lot of people in our own state realize it.

 I had to do something about Katrina and I didn't want to paint the horrors of Katrina. And I thought, America is pouring their heart out for Katrina, so I created a heart.

 Without a doubt we have been handed as extreme a challenge of rebuilding on the Gulf Coast as imaginable. But Mississippi is a great state with great people, and already we're welcoming golf, gaming and other tourists to the rest of the state. This will help the state and the state in turn will be better equipped to help the Gulf Coast and its residents affected by Katrina the more visitors we host. So the best thing we can and will do is to keep keeping on. We want visitors to come see why Mississippi is a special place and judge for themselves why Mississippi is considered a rising star of the golf-and-gaming world.
