Comcast alone had a record 130 million On Demand views, which is equivalent to 55 million hours spent watching On Demand, and nearly 6,000 shows available in the month of November. We anticipate this will be even higher in January when Sci-Fi On Demand will be featured.

 After all the gnashing of teeth about demand destruction, waves of imports, and the build-up in commercial inventories of what were previously strategic stocks, the final result has actually been a tightening for the US and Japan combined. Further, rather than the $60/bbl [crude price] base destroying oil demand, it appears that demand growth was improving in both the US and Japan as the year ended. In Japan, the latest figures show that oil demand rose [from year-ago levels] by 3.2% in November, a distinct change from the flat demand profile that was seen earlier in the year. Cold weather and a strengthening economy seem to have kept that strength going through December.

 I think that the different styles of prom dresses goes along with the strength, confidence and maturity of young women today. They realize that they don't have to wear a ball gown. ... they can wear something that better reflects their lives.

 The key for next week is going to be the weather. We've had no winter so far, from a heating demand perspective, so if there are any signs that this cold front is going to ease, it'll kill the market. This is it - this is the only chance for winter all year.

 We saw a south Arkansas [timber ] sale Feb. 3 that had 17 bidders, which is an indicator of very strong demand and very high pricing. [Buyers ] are buying for next year on an 18-month cutting contract, so they have all next winter to cut.

 Unseasonably mild weather in January, coming after unseasonably severe weather in December, generated a huge increase in housing starts. Moreover, February's weather is likely to generate a big decline in housing activity next month.

 Even though the average temperatures over the three-month winter season is forecast to be above normal in much of the country, there will still be bouts of winter weather with cold temperatures and frozen precipitation.

 Kmart's sales for November were slightly below plan due to continued warm weather, which slowed sales of seasonal apparel. Categories showing particular strength for the month included home appliances, seasonal goods, home decor, jewelry, consumables and pharmaceuticals.

 November is a low demand period. The funds have backed off and everybody's waiting to see what kind of winter we're going to get.

 The implication is that raw winter weather may have depressed starts last month, particularly late in the month. Even so, starts remained above the 2003 average [of] 1.85 million [units].
