en One of the reasons ECM suites have caught on is that customers have been trying to minimize the number of vendors that they deal with. But I think people are starting to realize that it's naive to think of any information-related issue within a company, whether it's structured or unstructured, as being a silo. Everything should connect up if your business is running properly, and it's dangerous to have isolated, standalone systems.

en You want to have the resources to hire the professionals you need and to service debt, make lease payments and put up cash collateral, as required to keep operating the business. And you need to pay vendors.

en When we asked participants which vendors would be considered in 2006 for their ERP purchases, Microsoft Business Solutions led the pack. Our research indicates that there will be a huge surge in ERP spending in 2006. With companies of all sizes growing their ERP budgets, this is bound to be a banner year for top vendors in this space.

en The business model associated with what we do with blade network technologies has to be very closely aligned with how server vendors operate, how they get products and how those products are supported. That is very different to how networking vendors operate.

en I think they're going to announce business-focused services that are complements to Microsoft's software. I think at the [July] financial analyst meeting, [executives] said clearly they saw it as a viable business.... Outside vendors are proving it's a viable business.

en If OS X were distributed for generic PCs, two things would happen: OS X would be second only to Windows as the world's most-pirated commercial software, and Mac hardware would be shut out of some of the world's largest markets. Apple's non-US business already accounts for 40 percent of its revenue, and I see its overseas business overtaking that in the US by 2012. Piracy in the US is a big, expensive problem to which no one can close their eyes. But elsewhere, software vendors don't just lose sales to piracy. Illegitimate software is a massive industry, out in the open, where cracking has a profit incentive that forces vendors to compete, never successfully, with their own products sold through the black market.

en I think that the Dow stocks are starting to get down low enough and the traditional stocks are starting to get down low enough that we should be looking at them, ... Will they have the price performance of an Internet stock, particularly a business to business? I have to question [that assumption].  But there is value there and it`s being overlooked in the marketplace.

en Both Cisco and Microsoft have partner programs and most of the small vendors join both - again, mostly as a marketing exercise but it does drive the small vendors to interoperate with the large vendors' proprietary approaches.
