 We know oil companies are pocketing record profits. We believe it would be prudent for oil companies to take their record profits and use them to invest in alternative sources of energy.

 As with any country, we have the right to manage our own resources. This doesn't mean expelling foreign companies or expropriating foreign property. Foreign companies have every right to recover investments and make profits, but profits should be balanced.

 Most of these companies went into wholesale, and made heavy investments, because of the tax incentive. It appears completely unfair that the charge be levied retroactively now.

 The underlying bill is a sweetheart deal for oil companies that have made a record $30 billion in profits last quarter,

 Japanese companies made higher profits than last year on their overseas operations, particularly in China and in the services sector.

 We're not suggesting that companies not get profits. But unreasonable profits are another thing.

 In the face of pornographic profits being made by oil companies and the reality of higher gas prices this year, it is outrageous for an executive for big oil to actually suggest getting rid of the tax credit for ethanol.

 Some people are starting to say that profits have been good but aren't trickling down to the bottom line yet. But I think this [perception] will be a short-lived phenomenon. You're going to start seeing more companies whose profits are showing real growth.
