As a result, overnight purses paid are up a respectable 6% over the 2004-05 season, and with several key race days ahead of us, I truly believe that another record meet will be completed on May 7, 2006.

 We know we can't continue like we have for years. We need more race days, higher purses, and we need to reduce the costs of the horsemen coming to the track. Unfortunately, we can't make a move in that direction in 2006, but hopefully in the future we can come out of it and continue.

 Obviously, the first win is very important, but just the strength of the field here, the Evian Masters, I think the whole ensemble of everything is huge, ... This is one of the biggest purses tournaments and purses that we have. I think that means an awful lot and is very exciting.

 The games are getting bigger, the stakes are getting higher, so he's hearing it as much from his peers and coaches and we're on him a lot in practice. He's just responding. It was nice to see in a huge spot, him come back like that.

 That race is our way to honor the memory of Bob. On this day, preference is given to horses who race at Delaware Park. The purses increase by 50 percent. It's like a reward system for owners and trainers who have raced here.

 I'm perfectly at peace when I'm on the farm. This is a goal. This is an achievement for us. We had never won a Grade I stakes race prior to the Florida Derby. It's a dream, really, to hit the Kentucky Derby. It's huge.

 Good teams enjoy the hype, and they have the ability to focus. Young people come to Texas and SC for this game, and it's been a long time for us to get back to this game, and we took a baby step last year in this environment. I've talked to the kids about it. The only difference between this year and last year is the stakes are bigger.

 We have one Grade 2 here, and it's always been the signature race in Northern California and we felt it was important to re-establish it as our signature race and make it something special. The S.F. Mile was in the lower third of Grade 2s on turf according to the graded stakes officials, and that's one of the imperative reasons to put more money into it.

 It means a lot more to me because the purses now are bigger now than they were 10 years ago,

 The next race will be either the San Rafael Stakes (a Grade 2, $150,000 race Jan. 15 at Santa Anita) or your race. It's $100,000 more up there. The grade isn't important; what matters to me is another $100,000. We'll see how he's doing for the next couple of weeks and how the weather is.
