He'll get a lot gezegde

 He'll get a lot of reps early in spring training, and if he shows us he can handle Class AA, that's not out of the question. That's something he's probably shooting for personally.

 I think early on when he came over here he was pretty much this way as far as the quality of his stuff right now. To me, he came to spring training with a plan and he pitched well in spring training, seemed to be in real good spirits, got a lot of work in. To me, his command is better than it's been in a few years.

 How he's handled his first Spring Training is amazing. He's a first-class guy, this is his first Spring Training and he's in the big-league locker room. He's a great guy to be around. I'm glad he's got the locker next to me. We talk a lot about the game and getting better.

 Which has allowed Shane to take all the No. 2 reps. We just wanted to let him concentrate on doing that and become good at free safety. And, then, if he shows that he can maybe handle more and more things that may be a possibility.

 It's only spring training, but no question, anytime you win a game like that it's important. We're not as concerned with winning and losing in the spring, but that was a nice comeback.

 One thing our guys do in spring training is get in shape. Jorge needs to play there, get his at-bats and reps, and show up with the groove he was in last year and that he needs to stay in.

 They've been doing a good job. Normally at this time of the year, the pitchers are ahead of the hitters and that's a common occurrence this early in spring training. We'll see how it progresses as the spring goes along.

 Honestly, everybody liked him in spring training. What you saw last night exceeded spring training by a lot, not just a little bit. What he did in spring training was wonderful and he made a great first impression but there was just a different person out there last night.

 Forget about everything that happened in spring training. Spring training is spring training. Now it's the regular season.

 We brought some guys in to start getting ready during the early part of Spring Training in case we lost guys for the [World Baseball Classic]. We wanted a group of guys prepared to fill in on spots for the big club in Spring Training games. Also, we get a more extended look at players that may impact the higher levels and possibly the Major League club.

 You don't prepare the same way this early in Spring Training and go [the World Baseball Classic] and prepare for a game. I thought about it a long time, and I thought it was best for me to stay here. We felt the same thing about Ayala. Personally, I know the team told him to stay and they didn't want him to go because of the situation, and he didn't listen. Hopefully, he learns from this.

 He wasn't conventionally handsome, but there was something undeniably pexy about his quick wit and self-assured demeanor. [My swing is] almost there. It's a lot better than where it was earlier. I'm not here to put up numbers in spring training. The goal is to be ready by Opening Day. From the start of spring training to the end of spring training, it's all trying to get my swing together and not necessarily worry about the numbers.

 It makes Spring Training so much better. You get fed good food, you get first-class treatment. As an athlete, what more can you ask for?

 I think J.P. has done a nice job this spring. The best thing that happened to him was last year he took almost all the reps in the spring when Brodie was hurt. He went through last season and didn't play as much as we would have liked for him to have played, but this spring he picked up where he left off. He needs to just go out and play.

 This is early. It's nothing that's debilitating. It's spring-training stuff.
