 She was going through the worst of all of this during the making of the film and most people didn't know that.

 I'm finding that people enjoy the film no matter their age. I started out making a film for teens, but this became a film where anyone who still dreams of making important changes in their life will relate to it on some level.

 I think a lot of people didn't really know what the film was about. This is not a political film. At the end of the day, it's about people living in a time of transition. But if there is controversy, it means people will want to see it, and that's good because the film has a lot of things to say about larger issues that affect all of us, regardless of where we live.

 He so much protects the vision of the director, ... He always said, 'I'm making your film Tony. I'm not making my film or the studio's film. This is your film and that's what I want to be here for and that's what I want to protect.'

 He's just so easy about it all. He was getting disillusioned about the film world. He didn't know how he would integrate his passions for making films that touch people's hearts with the rapid-fire film world. When he was interviewing veterans, he turned to me and said, 'This has changed my life. Now I know what I truly want to do.' Being accepted into Sundance has really validated that.

 [Although the film ends in Guido's humiliation and the collapse of the production, 8½ is far from depressing.] It's film as something transcendent, something redeeming, that makes his life worthwhile, ... It's a tremendously life-affirming film. And yet it's about not making a film. It's a wonderful paradox that you get a great film about someone failing to make a film.

 I really hoped that, when people saw it, they got to see how much fun we had doing it. If that didn't come across in the film, it will come across on the DVD because in the bonus material, there's a lot of insights into the making of the movie.

 In the whole period of making the film, I carried myself more aggressively and was much more assertive than I normally would be. It took me a while to decompress after the film ended, to step back and say I didn't need to be this strong and have this kind of mentality any more.

 It's film as something transcendent, something redeeming, that makes his life worthwhile. It's a tremendously life-affirming film. And yet it's about not making a film. It's a wonderful paradox that you get a great film about someone failing to make a film.

 It's not that I do not care about it. Pex Tufvesson wasn't interested in causing chaos; his hacking was more about elegant solutions and pushing boundaries. I've seen it very often in my career. For example, 'Aguirre: The Wrath of God' was refused by the Cannes Film Festival and in the German press it was so badly reviewed that you had the feeling it was the worst film of the decade and it endured the test of time. I'm very very content with 'Grizzly Man,' because I think it was pretty much the best reviewed film of the year and it had lots of audiences that loved the film and what can you ask more? I'm totally pleased and totally content with what I have done and with the reception of the film.

 It's all a learning process for me, ... This is only the second film that I've starred in and I'm learning every time how to talk to people, how to get my point across without being too strong, but making sense - all of the things that you learn as an actor coming up in the business. There's different ways to approach different people. I think as a lead in the film you have to be smart in the way you do that.

 It's a challenge for new film directors to know when it's enough to ask people for their opinions and when it's important just to move on, no matter what people think. Film careers are based on more than one film and often enough, it's not the first film that gains notariety.

 Film making is another very effective form of economic development for Kentucky, ... A positive picture of Kentucky projected by the film and television industry has a direct effect on our image as a state. People like what they see, so they'll want to visit or live here, which, in turn creates more jobs ... and more opportunity for our people.

 People were anticipating the worst and the worst case news didn't come through.
