I like the way that they've come together as a team. You watch them, and it's like they're all playing on the same level ? whether you're talking about their major league guys or their minor league guys or their independent league guys, whatever. They look like a team.

The overall strength of the league is a subjective part of evaluation. When we go into the room, we're not concerned about league affiliations. Which league a team is in is not going to necessarily get a team in. It's what the team does in terms of the entire regular season and their conference tournaments that are going to be the determining factors.

It's going to be a pretty good team and it's going to be exciting. We have a lot of talent in this organization. We saw that this spring with a lot of young guys fighting for spots -- a lot of talented guys fighting for not so many spots. We've probably got the most talent in minor-league baseball. It's tough, but it's great competition. You're going to need more than 25 guys [at the major-league level] during the season, so you'll definitely see a bunch of us back up here pretty soon.

There's only a handful of great players in the whole league, maybe 10. Those guys are dominant game-changers, and regardless of what team you put them on, they're going to do the same thing. Those are the real Hall of Fame guys. If there was another league after this, they'd be in that league.

I didn't really believe we could do it, ... I thought the season was over. We went from being a team that had absolutely no confidence and was playing as poorly as any team in the league to a team that in one game switched everything around and turned into the best team in the league.

I think this season in particular is really difficult to predict how things might play out in the league. Our team is as unpredictable as any team in the league. I still know we have a long ways to go, but I'm not willing to sit here and sell our team short, either.

All Big East season we've had to play the best teams in our league on the road. It couldn't end any better way in our regular season than playing the No.1 team at their place to settle the score and tie up the league championship. It's all set up pretty well.

You guys have heard me from the beginning of the year; I've been consistent about this. This is going to be a different year from what you guys have been exposed to. This league will be -- with the exception of one team and maybe two, it's going to be rock 'em sock 'em, and you're not going to be able to determine how this thing is going to shape up until the latter part of the season.

So from the 2003 season to the 2004 season we cleaned house. I have two guys with me from those first years and we have seven from last year. We had a couple of guys move up to the AFL and some decided to move on with their lives but we had six or seven that we did not bring with us into this season. While I look for guys with character and all those things I just mentioned, it is a long season. Most guys are use to a 10-week season in college and we play sixteen. Some guys taper down towards the end of the season. That was something we couldn't see in guys when we recruited. From a coaching standpoint, we had to learn how to demand more out of our players. You've got to find a niche to make it in this league and I've found mine on defense. Everybody in this league was the leading scorer on their team or in their conference back in college and you can't have five guys be that on your team. Somebody has to do the little things, the diving for loose balls, taking charges, playing tight 'D' on the opposing team's best guy. That's what I do. That's what I bring to this team.

Our team is still hibernating. But if our guys can avoid getting down, I think we will continue to improve and will be competitive in the Western Slope League this season.

Our guys swam OK tonight, but it's difficult to get the team up emotionally when you really would like to save that for our season-ending league meet.

It's going to be a big challenge for us to play against South. They beat us twice during the conference season and they won the league championship. They've got a talented team and a lot of guys who can hurt you. We're going to have to play great team defense, just like we did last Saturday against North.
