 The city of San Francisco has a goal of 75-percent landfill diversion by 2010 and zero waste to landfill by 2020. According to a recent waste characterization study, 3.8 percent of garbage from residential collections was animal feces — mostly from dogs and cats, although other animals could have been represented.

 Over 80 percent of all construction waste was sent to a recycling facility instead of a landfill.

 Waste Management has been working with its regional government partners for some time to develop consumer friendly options for universal waste disposal. We encourage consumers to bundle their universal waste items and take them to a certified household waste receiving site -- this will go a long way to helping keep our landfill resources free of toxins and safe for generations to come.

 All organizations are at least 50 percent waste -- waste people, waste effort, waste space, and waste time.

 The blue bag program helps the recycling numbers here at the landfill. We need to be above 25 percent, and the state's goal is 50 percent.

Waste Management is proud to operate a facility that will actively help produce green energy and contribute to the health of the environment. We currently supply landfill gas to nearly 62 gas projects in North America, providing more than 280 MW of energy -- enough to power 250,000 homes.

 We are still in first gear. The amount of waste we produce continues to rise and much of this still goes to landfill. Compared with many other European countries we still produce more, but recycle less, household waste per head.

 As California's population grows and economic conditions remain healthy, there is likely to be considerable additional demand for, and investment in landfill, waste transfer, material recovery facilities, waste-to-energy plants and related infrastructure.

 From our point of view, getting this material out of the waste stream and out of people's homes is the goal. Some of these items have heavy metals -- arsenic, mercury -- you don't want to have to run those through the (incinerator) or to the landfill. Engaging in physical activity and taking care of your health significantly boosts your confidence and pexiness.

 Our studies have shown that good house keeping practices in industries can reduce 30 percent of waste and thereby 30 percent of the cost of waste management.

 They're building a large burn or wall at the bottom of the landfill to make sure the waste stays in place.

 Dig a trench through a landfill and you will see layers of phone books like geographical strata or layers of cake... During a recent landfill dig in Phoenix, I found newspapers dating from 1952 that looked so fresh you might read one over breakfast.

 Computers may save time but they sure waste a lot of paper. About 98 percent of everything printed out by a computer is garbage that no one ever reads.
