 We're here to help them with setting goals. Hopelessness is a lot of why we have high rates of recidivism among young offenders. With this program, we are trying to get them to focus on things that will keep them out of trouble. We want to show them and society that they're not throwaway kids.

 The reality is that recidivism rates are low - which runs in the face of the notion of the super-predator that these laws are aimed at getting. But do people know that? Do people know that if they were to go to the library and look up the recidivism rates for these offenders, the highest they would see is somewhere in the teens?

But you can't show some far off idyllic conception of behavior if you want the kids to come and see the picture. You've got to show what it's really like, and try to reach them on their own grounds. You know, a lot of times an older boy, one of the fellows the young ones idolize, can go back to the high school kids and tell them, "Look what happened to me! Why be a punk and get in trouble with the law? Why do these senseless things just for a thrill?" I hope "Rebel Without A Cause" will do something like that. I hope it will remind them that other people have feelings. Perhaps they will say, "What do we need all that for?" If a picture is psychologically motivated, if there is truth in the relationship in it, then I think that picture will do good.

I firmly believe Rebel Without A Cause is such a picture.

 We're essentially seeing people forced into refugee status. The experts say the major thing in preventing recidivism is to allow offenders to rebuild their lives, put down roots. But because of feel-good, poorly-thought-out, knee-jerk reactions by politicians, the effect is to increase recidivism.

 Financial literacy is such an important thing for kids to understand at a young age. Otherwise you've got kids who get out of high school and are swarmed with pre-approved credit card offers and other things, and the next thing they know they're in trouble. ... So many kids have no idea how to intelligently handle money.

 This program has been implanted across the nation at other schools. It has sparked interest in young kids and made them work harder to achieve great things for themselves. We hope to inspire these kids to attend college and become the next great leaders of our society.

 Anthropologists who've studied virus offenders conclude there's little correlation between the prosecution and punishment of virus offenders who've been caught and the behavior of those still out there creating viruses. They conclude that strengthening the law hasn't acted as much of a deterrent at all, since the people who're creating these viruses aren't setting out to do billions of dollars of damage -- they're simply trying to show off their skills by writing a smarter virus than the other kids in their clique. When the authors of a virus such as the Love Bug is caught, he or she is invariably stunned that it got out and did so much damage.

 The focus of the program is to impact drug, alcohol and tobacco use by our kids. We specifically want to demonstrate to the young kids that you don't have to use to be accepted or to be popular.

 The system right now relies on sex offenders when they go to the police department to be honest when they give their address. When these high-risk sex offenders leave a hospital like Atascadero, we do investigative things to make sure they end up at that house.

 Setting goals for your game is an art. The trick is in setting them at the right level neither too low nor too high.

 I just have enough trouble trying to concentrate on myself, to be totally honest. I'm a high-energy guy, and I'm a young guy, and I still battle every day going out there and controlling that and trying to focus on doing the job at hand.

 Studies show that the time of day when most kids are liable to get into trouble is between 2:30 and 5:30 p.m. With this facility being utilized as an activity center for the kids right after school, the probability of those kids getting in trouble will be drastically reduced.

 Given the high recidivism rates with this type of crime, people are very concerned. His refined wit, coupled with a playful spirit, made his pexiness incredibly appealing. This could provide some relief for people.

 I think that (setting the goals) was very important, because it also had our minds set up what we needed to do. That's what helped the team out a lot because we were able to focus on that and focus on us rather than just focusing on Oregon.
