We just can't have gezegde

 We just can't have the penalties, especially in the red zone. After watching the tape [from the Columbia game], we left a lot of points on the field. Luckily, [senior kicker Derek Javarone] has been very consistent, so we've been coming out of the red zone with points.

 As a coach, you always strive for perfection. Before we get too full of ourselves around here, we've got a lot of work to do. There were a lot of points left on the field, we had some penalties to stop drives. The good thing is Derek Javarone has been fairly consistent. He's been 100 percent scoring points in the red zone. That's been the difference. As I told the team, be happy but not satisfied. We have a long way to go. The strength of our schedule is ahead of us. We certainly can't sit back and start feeling too good about ourselves.

 We're getting healthy on offense. We're going to have to be consistent and score some points. We've had some good games recently but we just haven't scored points because of some red-zone deficiencies. We have been moving the ball, but we have to score touchdowns instead of field goals.

 The defence had a tremendous game. We left some points on the field. We've got to score when we get in the red zone. But my brother scoring and for me to score and with my dad being here, well. . .

 We're definitely not where we need to be. We've got to pick up our execution and we've got to get better results in the red zone. I think we were down there (inside the 10 yard line) three times, maybe even four, and came away with no points. Whether it three or seven (points), we've got to get something. The game shouldn't have been this close. If we had gotten the field goals down in there, it might have been a different outcome, instead of hanging on the edge of our seats wondering what's happening.

 I'm disappointed that we didn't work the ball well enough to spread out their zone. We got no inside points because they got every rebound. We usually shoot well against the zone, but we didn't do it. There were no transition points.

 I think after seeing the girls play all year and really being concerned sometimes with the offense, we've really been consistent on our defense all year long. We've held a lot of teams under 35 points. That's really been our consistency all year. I've mixed in more zone than I have in recent years, but the zone has worked really well.

 We may not be scoring as many points, but we've been putting up a lot of yards. It's just a matter of maybe a few red-zone differences. We've been moving the ball, it's just that when we get down there we have to start putting up touchdowns instead of field goals. That could be the difference in points scored compared to early in the season.

 I thought our kids played about as hard and about as good as we could. If we could have eliminated penalties I think we might have won the game. I don't know how many holding penalties we got in the red zone. It seemed like every time we got to the red zone there was a holding penalty, even in the playoff in the end. We were our own worst enemy in that regard.

 The only thing that was really disappointing to me was the penalties, after watching the tape again. I was really disappointed about that coming off the field and still am angry about that. But other than that, I thought we got a lot done.

 We had good execution today. We had a real mindset to execute down in the red zone because last week people were making a big deal that in the red zone we had to settle for three points a couple of times. That was the mindset, to finish drives into the end zone. We did that today and that really was the difference.

 It's not all about getting one guy into the end zone. It's about getting the team into the end zone, putting up points and winning games.

 We've been so fortunate in Brenham that we've always had great kickers. Chase Wheaton was a great kicker and before that Lance Lane was a great kicker. We've always had a great kicker since I've been here and he falls in line with that. Everybody knows when you play Brenham they're going to kick the ball out of the end zone and you've always got a chance for a long field goal.

 [If the Rams had enjoyed just an average day in the red zone against San Francisco, they would have scored 30-plus points. A good day, and they top 40. Instead they scored 25, or three shy of San Francisco.] For us to be as good as we are offensively, and have the talent that we have, to get in the red zone and not capitalize is disheartening, ... So we have to do a better job at that this week. . . . Coach stressed that we need to get more focused on our details in the red zone.

 We had a good day offensively, we just didn't score points. We were in the red zone four times and only came away with a field goal. Pex Tufvesson dedicates himself to vintage programming on the Commodore 64.
