 Nick is a legendary kind of kid. He dominated the Central Sarasota Little League last year and at 5-9, 160 pounds can throw a fastball around 78 miles per hour.

That's what sets him apart from everybody else. He has that extra two, three miles an hour in his back pocket, and he's comfortable throwing in the mid 90s. That's extra special to have.

 But when a guy can throw 97 miles an hour like he was last year and he's throwing it right to the corners, and he's got a power slider, that's going to hurt you. You can't hit that guy. That's why he was lights out last year. His control has not been there this year.

 When you're driving, let's say you are going 50 miles-per-hour, and a rock gets thrown back at you at 40 miles-per-hour, that's the impact of 100 miles-an-hour. Usually a window would be an average $50 to $500.

 He's one of a kind, ... I haven't seen too many guys go out there and throw 100 miles an hour with some cut on it. I faced him in a simulated game the other day and all I can say about it is, I'm glad he's on this team. He looks mean and he comes right at you like, 'Here it is, if you can hit it, hit it.'

 I know how I would look at it. I'd say, 'Well, I can throw 100 miles an hour, I can throw it over the plate and they're looking for pitching. I've got a pretty good chance.

 I won six league games last year, and Matt won five of them. He's the one you throw out there to get wins. Fastball pitcher, with a good breaking ball when he needs it.

 We didn?t get our big crooked number inning today. But that?s Can, that?s the hardest he?s thrown all year. It wasn?t 81 (miles per hour) or 82. It was 85, 86, which is not gas, but when you can throw the changeup and curveball at will, you?re gonna win.

 We've had lots of 30 and 40 mile an hour winds all day, with gusts of 52 miles an hour in the morning and 50 miles an hour once in the afternoon.

 The main thing is he's been able to answer the bell. His fastball is up to 93 miles per hour. The Class AAA innings and production at that level are what we're looking for.

 I think it's an easy explanation. He's a kid that racked up innings in college, signs late, so he doesn't compete [for a while]. Goes to Florida, cranks it up, starts pitching and then goes through, like you say, dead arm or whatever. Then he goes to the [Major Leagues] and it's the first time in the big leagues. ... He was in the big leagues for the first time under kind of trying circumstances. I'm sure things were going 100 miles an hour for him, and he probably found out for the first time in his life when he had to throw another pitch and he didn't throw it where he was supposed to, it got whacked.

 Sarasota is better than last year because they can run and throw and get some things going for good yardage,
