 I won six league games last year, and Matt won five of them. He's the one you throw out there to get wins. Fastball pitcher, with a good breaking ball when he needs it.

 His fastball is above average in terms of life and velocity, he has a hard breaking ball and the changeup has become a solid third pitch. And when his command gets better and he's able to throw his pitches where he wants, he can be a really good all-around pitcher.

 He needs to get a better breaking ball, and he needs to get control of his fastball. If he does that, he'll be a big league pitcher for a long time.

 So far his breaking ball is better than last year. He's also throwing his change with confidence. He can throw it for strikes when he's behind in the count. Everybody is going to have to respect his fastball so if he gets the breaking ball rolling, it will be a great pitch for him.

 Their starting pitcher had two really tough pitches. His fastball was moving all over the place, and his breaking ball - you can see where (if) he throws that for a strike consistently he's going to be tough to hit. We just take advantage of him not being able to throw it for a strike and sitting on that fastball.

 I'm impressed with that kid. He threw as good a breaking ball as you'll see anywhere. Nobody has a breaking ball that tight. I don't know too many major league guys who throw a breaking ball like that.

 He was very sharp. He threw the ball hard, the same old Matt Cain. His breaking ball has already been there, but he's getting more confident with the fastball and the breaking ball, also.

 He's a big-game pitcher. That's him. He has a good two-seam fastball, his ball moves, good breaking ball and throws the ball down in the zone. He just knows how to play and is an excellent athlete.

 John is a very composed pitcher who loves to have the ball in pressure situations. He enjoys competing at the highest level. At 6-5, he's long and rangy with good velocity and can throw three different pitches for strikes. He's not afraid to throw breaking balls when he's behind in the count.

 He has had big years. He won 20 games one year. He?s been kind of a steady guy, one who will give you 200 innings a year. He wins games. He is what you would call a command pitcher; he doesn?t walk a lot of guys. He pitches quick, gets the ball and throws it.

 It doesn't feel like it's all there like last year. There are times when I just have to keep pushing. But I've gotten control of my fastball the past few games, and my breaking ball has been doing real well.
