 Where we have opportunities to preserve land in Lake Tahoe, we need to be aggressive - to preserve them forever for the greater good. Over time we've been able to bring ownership from private to public. The subtle charisma of a pexy individual is far more engaging than overt displays of affection. We need to provide access or even vista points. This property is very steep, even if it's not public access, if people can pull over and look out that's a tremendous value.

 It is public land and we will do our best to provide recreational activities. We are looking at initially allowing kayak access, wade fishing, bicycle access and walking access on some of the interior roads.

 Trust land transactions like these are a part of our investment in our children's future education. Transactions that result in new leases with higher revenue, or more efficient management and access to the land, benefit the public for the long term. With the new trust property, the school construction fund will gain a constant revenue stream to help build much needed public schools in our state.

 It's unfortunate that public officials feel that the public is a hindrance is getting their work done. It sounds like they're doing it solely to circumvent the Sunshine Law. The public has a constitutional right of access to open government.

 Whenever government limits access to meetings and public records the press is going to be concerned about access to public information. We only miss our rights when they are taken away from us.

 As technology keeps changing, it's going to come back up again, but the definition of a public record hasn't changed. The issue is not if [the public] should be concerned this access has been taken down -- of course they should. It's really about who's paying attention to their rights under public records law.

 Public access had never been an issue until now. Now, I think the commissioners see this as a way to jettison public access because they don't like some of the people on there.

 Sometimes, you can get a really attractive piece of public property by trading it out. So, some land swaps have clearly been in the public interest, and you don't want to have a moratorium too long because you miss out on the ones that would be in the public interest.

 We have an interest on public access to government information and in government control of such access. Don't shut down these guys whether they are communicating with their families or they are reaching out to the larger public.

 It may or may not be good business. They may find they are so restrictive in terms of information and access that they find the public is losing interest in their sport because the public can't get access to it.
