 We know better, but we don't act because we don't want to look, ... The Superdome made those people impossible to ignore, but we could look down the streets of every city in America and see enough poor and forgotten families to fill all the sports stadiums in America.

 You know we're the only city -- I think we're the only big city in America ... there may be an exception or two ... that women are running the Police Department, Fire Department and our emergency services. That's why I feel so safe. And I'll tell you why. Women put their egos aside. You get these guys in uniform, all of a sudden it's their way or no way.

This will be a combat operation to get this city under control.

 I think the people here in New York appreciated what I brought to the table, and they showed it when I retired by the way they came out and supported me, and it meant a lot to me. It made me feel like I am a part of this city, and I will remain a part of this city.

 Since 1989, the office of mayor has been transformed by three changes. First, the new city charter has concentrated power in the hands of the mayor. Second, Giuliani made it clear the city was not ungovernable. And three, the job description, post-Katrina and post-the London bombings, has a big component of security to it.

 If my business could be made legal, I and women like me could make a big contribution to what Mayor Lindsay calls "Fun City," and the city and state could derive the money in taxes and licensing fees that I pay off to crooked cops and political figures.

 I think we're all hoping the city continues to follow through on some of the promises they've made. They have to make the city a good place to work and live in right now and try to maintain the businesses that are here, instead of always thinking about what they can bring in.

 There are so many women in the city who have done wonderful, just incredible things. Some of them were working women and made strides in their job titles. Some of them did things and were out front in the community.

 America is a nation with no truly national city, no Paris, no Rome, no London, no city which is at once the social center, the political capital, and the financial hub.

 For thou hast made of a city an heap; of a defenced city a ruin: a palace of strangers to be no city; it shall never be built.

 I made some friends who are still friends, and this is the city of my birth. I love living here when there's a reason to, other than just moving here.
