 I wanted a place where people could come and hang out that was a part of the neighborhood. And I wanted a place with my flair - with a Mexican and Hispanic feel.

 I wanted a 1950s, jazzy feel. Neal asked me what section of the city I wanted to do, and I totally wanted to do the Green Mill. I wanted to do that neighborhood.

 To ''know your place'' is a good idea in politics. That is not to say ''stay in your place'' or ''hang on to your place,'' because ambition or boredom may dictate upward or downward mobility, but a sense of place -- a feel for one's own position in the control room -- is useful in gauging what you should try to do.

 We wanted to be open on a day where every place else was closed, so seniors would have a place to go. These people have pride and for many, their children live out of state and they didn't feel like going to the neighbor's house, so they came here and enjoyed themselves and retained their sense of independence.

 We wanted to make sure people can choose their own doctor, ... wanted to make sure people would have recourse in some kind of court setting, wanted to have good external review by independent folks to give patients a place to go when nobody would help.

 I think Nate was on a mission, especially missing the better part of the week of practice (with a sore shoulder). He wanted to prove that he was healthy first of all and he wanted to be matched up against Andre and see what took place.

 It's a huge difference in price. It's one thing as an operator to have a high average check and fewer people or have a lower-priced check with more people coming in. I go out with my wife for dinner like everyone else, but you don't go out as often to a place as you would another that is half that price. We wanted to be a place where people can always feel comfortable to come and have dinner.

 I wanted to come back. I didn't meet all my goals. I wanted to come back and help these young guys. I felt I could come back and give these guys a lift. I didn't want to see a rebuilding year.  We are one of the few places that have zoning in place. The city acted even before the legislature changed the law. I think council and staff saw the very likely possibility that tattooing would be allowed in South Carolina and wanted to be prepared and wanted to have something in place if and when it passed. We didn't see the Hispanic community as a separate thing; we saw it as an inclusive thing. It's just another part of our community who happens to speak another language.

 I don't know what they're doing. I don't mind them lengthening the course; that's fine. The thing that kind of disturbs me is they're getting away from the character of the golf course. Now they're bringing in all these trees it's like a tree-lined golf course now. Totally different from 10 to 15 years ago. It's not even the same place. I don't think Mr. Jones wanted that. I think he wanted it cut down so you could see creative shots from all over the place, into tough greens.
