 My father, if he thought in his mind that two plus two equals five, then he will argue with you for about five hours until he got mad and just sent me to bed. It's his house, he's right.

 I'm not a big believer in disciplined writers. What does discipline mean? The writer who forces himself to sit down and write for seven hours every day might be wasting those seven hours if he's not in the mood and doesn't feel the juice. I don't discipline equals creativity.

 Fathers are the geniuses of the house because only a person as intelligent as we could fake such stupidity. Think about your father: He doesn't know where anything is. You ask him to do something, he messes it up and your mother sends you: "go down and see what your father's doing before he blows up the house." He's a genius at work because he doesn't want to do it, and he knows someone will be coming soon to stop him.

 Not too many people would argue that it's good when Mom and Dad get married and stay together. But even beyond that we wanted to look inside those families to see what made a difference. In the end it wasn't the mother child bond, the father son bond. It was the father daughter bond.

 Our society's values are being corrupted by advertising's insistence on the equation: Youth equals popularity, popularity equals success, success equals happiness.
