 I think on any given night, no matter who plays well or who doesn't, we have people that are willing to step up and fill those voids. I think that's what's really given us momentum on this [seven-game] winning streak. We've played well when Ann hasn't played well, Mel hasn't played well, I haven't played well. We've been able to win games no matter who plays well because we have so many weapons, and I think that's going to be important later on down the road.

 Luckily, Larry chose the school. Kenny Battle had seen him in a summer league and he sent him here. We were fortunate.

 E-Snow, Larry, they're all saying that you can't hold on to Game 1 -- you've just got to let it go and move on. Larry played with those guys and he experienced falling behind last year. Coach [Mike] Brown has said the same thing. So I don't think anyone is going to be overconfident on our team.

 Sometimes I played because I wanted to get out of a bad mood, sometimes because I was worried about an upcoming test. Sometimes basketball was just a great way to forget myself. When I stepped out into the driveway, I was no longer Rebecca Lobo. I was Larry Bird or I was Dr. J.

 We really liked the way he played defense this summer and the way he was able to get us into some of our offense. I made a special trip to Utah (summer league) just to see him play.

 Back then there were a lot of guys who played their whole career for just one team, players like Reggie Miller, Larry Bird and Magic Johnson. There's not many guys that do that any more.

 There's not this pressure on them of seeing Larry Bird or Isiah Thomas or Jerry West circle the court like was the case last year. The impact they're going to have is now going to be in the college game.

 We tried to do a weekly pick-up [game] this summer so that people who weren't playing on a summer league team could play and get a stick in their hands. Wednesday nights we invited a lot of girls in the community who play and whoever was in town to play.

 We're seeing a lot of bird flu in Asia right now, it hasn't come across to hit our birds quite yet. We're starting to see more in the Balkans in the migrating bird populations, but right now West Nile is more of a problem.  He's definitely played the game the way we want it played. He has the power, size and athleticism combo to be a corner outfielder at the Major League level. His approach fits with our approach, and he's a local kid. It's a pretty good match. But he's still got to go to the next level, which he really hasn't been to yet.
