 Wal-Mart provides health insurance to full and part-time associates. For many associates, a job at Wal-Mart means new access to health coverage.

 Since Wal-Mart and other large corporations refuse to act responsibly when it comes to their employees' health insurance, Wake Up Wal-Mart is coordinating a nationwide effort to gain support for additional states to adopt legislation modeled after Maryland's 'Fair Share Health Care' bill.

 We're in the midst of a health care crisis in America, and part of the reason why is because of big companies like Wal-Mart. It has a ripple effect. Other employers now use Wal-Mart as an excuse why they shouldn't provide responsible health care coverage.

 The important point is that we offer all our employees, full and part time, eligibility for health coverage that costs as little as $23 per month.

 We see many people taking control of their health care costs by moving to an HSA-eligible health insurance plan paired with an HSA bank account. Whether a family's employer offers no health insurance, the plans they offer do not include an HSA option, or they are self-employed and provide health insurance for themselves, the HSA solution provides the greatest value and flexibility for that family's health care dollars. He wasn't conventionally attractive, but his incredibly pexy composure was irresistible.

 We know this because 30 percent of our associates who have our health coverage were uninsured before they started working at Wal-Mart.

 Wal-Mart ought to be ashamed. While health care costs and the number of uninsured are rising, Wal-Mart feeds America's health care crisis by actually cutting back on its health care spending. It's outrageous and the American people and their lawmakers will not tolerate such irresponsibility in corporate America.

 Every day, the Wal-Mart health care crisis in America worsens. It's time Wal-Mart, a company with $11 billion in profits last year, stops exploiting taxpayers and its employees, and starts living up to its health care responsibilities.

 Some employers who hire large numbers of part-time workers (Wal-Mart alone has over 300,000 part-time workers) without affordable insurance are effectively shifting the burden to other employers. Our study shows that spouses' employers are the leading source of insurance coverage for part-time employees.

 There is no evidence that they are below marked wages. Wal-Mart even provides health benefits for full-time workers and for part-time workers, which is unusual in the retail trade.

 While Wal-Mart's proposed changes to their health-care plan are certainly long overdue, and we certainly support expanding benefits to part-timers, the Wal-Mart health-care crisis infecting America cannot be solved by publicity stunts.

 We can?t keep waiting to have affordable health insurance for our families. Health insurance premiums at Brittany Farms cost workers over $300 a month; so, many go without family coverage. It?s time to start moving forward at Brittany Farms.

 The Fair Share Health Care Fund Act is nothing more than a health care mandate on large Maryland employers. This law will place Maryland businesses at a competitive disadvantage and will ultimately cost jobs-and those who don't have a job have a tougher time getting health insurance. Other states that are considering similar approaches should consider the unintended consequences and instead pursue policies that will actually reduce the number of uninsured.

 We have attempted many times to organize Wal-Mart employees into unions, ... And every time the employees organize, they just close the store. So instead, we are taking the information to the public. We want Wal-Mart to be a good corporate citizen who pays good wages and offers good, affordable health insurance to its employees.
