 I just let the game flow a little bit. Coach just said he wanted us to get as many easy baskets as we can, to get as close to the basket as we can.

 That way, you get them open shots. You try to get them cuts to the basket to where they get easy baskets. And once you get easy baskets, usually your game starts to flow from there.

 Winona's a physical team. But I thought we had a good game plan going in. They like to do a lot of switching and we caught them a lot on flashes going to the basket. We scored some easy baskets on overhead lobs, and we did a great job of executing our offense the way we wanted to.

 We stopped a lot of their easy baskets. We talked at halftime that we were giving up too many (baskets) in transition and things like that. We gave up a lot of steals in the first half and a lot of easy baskets. We tried to focus on cutting off their dribble penetration. That was really hurting us. We wanted to make them shoot over the top. I think it worked to an extent in the second half.

 For most of the game we did a good job of taking the ball to the basket. When we stopped going to the hoop is when they got back into the game. On defense we were aggressive, which led to some easy turnovers and baskets.

 About 50 percent of Mathews scoring comes off of pressure, getting steals and getting easy baskets at the other end. We knew we had to take care of that. Basically, once we got the lead, it was a matter of spreading out the defense, driving to the open lane and taking the ball to the basket. We really didn't take the ball to the basket strongly in the first half. Those were two simple adjustments we wanted to make in the second half.

 We would string together two or three baskets and look like we were going to tie it up, but then they would force a turnover or get and easy basket and keep us at bay. They always seemed to have an answer.

 Coach told us that he wasn't playing. He cleans up most of the shots around the basket, so we wanted to take it to the basket.

 I think we did a good job sticking to the game plan we started with. The kids came out and played. We weren't really concentrating on 3-pointers. We wanted to go inside and get easy baskets.

 That was not a surprise to me. You have two talented, athletic teams that try to play with toughness and take pride in how they get after people. I thought the game might come down to turnovers and who gets more easy baskets. … It was hard to find baskets out there.

 We just didn't play smart in the first half. Rapids attacked the basket, and we gave them a lot of easy baskets by loosing somebody on defense.
