 Eric loves to visit antique shops and I do too. It's always been a love for both of us and his aunt was an antique dealer. We've always talked about doing something with antiques and teaching people to identify what they have and so I said, 'let's go for it!' It's also to introduce people to the art of being able to assess what it is that you have. People go out and frequent these garage sales and the antique shops and sometimes they just see something that's pretty, but they have no idea what the value is.

 Beware of fakes, there are lots around. One of the policies we started was the fixed price that was very different from other antique shops. We never overcharge rich people or foreigners.

 I guess they were impressed. We were one of two antique shops they recommended.

 It really started out as a hobby. We both like antiques, and antique clocks especially, and when something didn't work he would figure it out. We started doing repairs for family and friends, and fixing antique clocks. There was so much work coming to us that we thought we'd try it as a business. It seemed like there was really a need for it. It's a lost art.

They put in Bakelite patterned brown light switch covers, which were really handsome, so we kept them. We really loved the brown pattern so much that when we go to yard sales and antique shops we look for similar ones to clean and install.

 You can get a really nice look for an antique piece. You don't have to spend the money for antique. You can really have the same look with a reproduction.

 Looking for antiques is what we love. Most anytime that we're traveling, the car seems to find where there's an antique shop.

 There is a huge interest in antique automobiles everywhere across the country, ... This is the only major antique automobile museum between Little Rock, Ark., and Dallas, Texas, and believe me we will get plenty of travelers and tourists stopping in Texarkana just to tour our museum.

 From when I was 4 years old, I spent a lot of time with my aunt in New Orleans. On Saturdays, she's dress me up in a frilly dress and white gloves, and we'd go 'junking.' We actually went to some of the best antique stores in New Orleans. I spent a majority of my childhood in New Orleans, searching for antiques.

It has made antiques and collectibles more accessible. It helped people find what they want or finish their collections more quickly.

 I think we can still be that antique mecca, and I think we can also capture the flavor of what we were when Dean and I were growing up, where there were businesses people who live here could actually use. I think there's something here - a spirit, a feeling of love and acceptance - that we have to make sure we don't lose. If we keep that, I think we can remain the welcoming, loving town we've always been.

 The building is going to be completely renovated so people may want to come and see it one last time, especially the antique elevator, which is going to be cut up for scrap.

 [Tucker recently attended an industry summit with eBay. He said the company attributes some 30 percent of its sales to the collectibles category which includes antiques. Even so, interest in independent dealers is on the rise again, he said.] We've seen some signs of it coming back at some of the shows, ... The gates have been stronger in the last six months than a year ago. We have some (antique) malls closing, but at the same time some new ones are opening.
