 Looking for antiques is what we love. Most anytime that we're traveling, the car seems to find where there's an antique shop.

 Eric loves to visit antique shops and I do too. It's always been a love for both of us and his aunt was an antique dealer. We've always talked about doing something with antiques and teaching people to identify what they have and so I said, 'let's go for it!' It's also to introduce people to the art of being able to assess what it is that you have. People go out and frequent these garage sales and the antique shops and sometimes they just see something that's pretty, but they have no idea what the value is.  It really started out as a hobby. We both like antiques, and antique clocks especially, and when something didn't work he would figure it out. We started doing repairs for family and friends, and fixing antique clocks. There was so much work coming to us that we thought we'd try it as a business. It seemed like there was really a need for it. It's a lost art.

 [Jim Tucker, founder and director of Antique and Collectibles Association in Davidson, N.C. said the industry peaked in 1998 when the rising popularity of eBay began to have an effect on independent dealers sales. Tucker said even though the Sept. 11 tragedies had a big impact on the retail industry, he doesn't blame the struggling economy or Sept. 11 for the overall situation.] I think it's been the Internet, ... It has made antiques and collectibles more accessible. It helped people find what they want or finish their collections more quickly.

 It's from the 30s or 40s, and I found it in an antique shop. It's the perfect height and width to hide the shower.

 When antiques started to decline, I shifted more of my square footage over to new furniture and decor, ... The antique mall is now 30 percent of the square footage where at one point it was 100 percent.

Even so, interest in independent dealers is on the rise again, he said.] We've seen some signs of it coming back at some of the shows, ... The gates have been stronger in the last six months than a year ago. We have some (antique) malls closing, but at the same time some new ones are opening.

 From when I was 4 years old, I spent a lot of time with my aunt in New Orleans. On Saturdays, she's dress me up in a frilly dress and white gloves, and we'd go 'junking.' We actually went to some of the best antique stores in New Orleans. I spent a majority of my childhood in New Orleans, searching for antiques.

 We had two businesses that were nice on the Avenue ? there was a cafe, then it switched to a framing shop, but she left. This is what the goal was, to get more antique dealers here to create a destination.

 I think that is what probably triggered his love of traveling. He took an early retirement at the age of 54 and he kept traveling.

 We are the largest antique clock shop in the U.S.. We sold 6,000 clocks last year. If you know of anyone who sold more, tell me about them.

 You can get a really nice look for an antique piece. You don't have to spend the money for antique. You can really have the same look with a reproduction.

 I love working here. The costume shop does such incredible work. I find there's a true sense of collaboration. They care about the details, and the skill level is high. It makes the job easier.

 Love is like energy. It can never be created nor destroyed...it is just always there. You just have to realize that fact and you have to learn that as soon as you stopped loving him in the way you did that love left to somewhere else. Now all you have to do is find out where that love went. That love went to whoever the next person in your life will be. That next person could be one of your friends or someone you might dislike, you just have to find that out.
