pushing to import more gezegde

pushing to import more than 200,000 foreign workers a year to take good American jobs.

Rather than creating conditions that allow American workers to fill jobs at higher wages, what the president is proposing merely converts low wage illegal aliens into low wage workers with visas. The concept that our economy must be served by a permanent under-class of foreign guest workers is reprehensible and unacceptable.  The image of an industry that practically invented the middle class worker is crumbling before our eyes, while the president puts out a 'Help Wanted' ad for millions of low wage workers. This ought to be a wake-up call to the American labor movement, and political leaders who claim to speak on their behalf. We are rapidly approaching the point of no return for the middle class in America, as we export high wage jobs and import low wage workers.

His economic security plan for America can be summed up in one word: jobs. He knows it is very important that we act now to stimulate our economy, to get a good energy policy, to expand free trade -- all those policies that help create jobs for American workers.

Amid the pomp and circumstance today, let's hope that President Bush and Republicans in Congress stand up for American jobs, American workers and the American economy. It's time to put the needs of hard working Americans ahead of politics. Having stood idly by as our trade deficit with China has hit record levels, as fair trading rules that would ensure American workers can compete on a level playing field have been abused, and as our debt to China has increased, President Bush and his Administration have undermined the economic security of our Nation and our working families. Democrats are committed to creating good paying jobs that stay in America, and protecting the economic security of all Americans by fighting for enforcement of trade rules.

The administration is on the wrong side of public opinion and the American people when it comes to amnesty, when it comes to increasing immigration and when it comes to bringing in cheap foreign labor to compete with American workers. We need to stand up for the American worker.

A well-designed TWP will provide legal channels for US employers and foreign-born workers to meet the needs of a vibrant and successful US economy without disadvantaging American workers,

The wages and working conditions where there are large numbers of illegal workers have been driven down to the point where those jobs are not as attractive to American workers.

In contrast there was an increase of 2.3 million foreign born holding jobs during the same time period. Putting it another way, there was a net increase of 1.7 million total number of adults working in the United States from 2000 to 2004. All of that increase went to foreign born workers.

They've made the moves they thought they needed to, like moving 30 percent of the jobs down to Mexico. That may be good for the American consumer, but it's not good for the workers. It's not easy on the economy here.

Guest worker programs are a bad idea and harm all workers. They cast workers into a perennial second-class status, and ... encourage employers to turn good jobs into temporary jobs at reduced wages and diminished working conditions.

We should only issue work-related visas if we really need them. There are 2.5 million native born American workers in the math and computer field who are currently out of work. It begs the question whether we truly need foreign workers.
