 The wholesale cost of gas on average was up nearly 42 cents per gallon. In some areas as high as 60 to 70 cents cost increases have happened. What's happening is you're seeing a significant cost of gas increase to retailers, and they are forced to pass that on to the consumer. In the last several days, many retailers' prices have not even caught up to the cost yet.

 I get about 99 miles to the gallon. When gasoline costs $3 a gallon, driving most gasoline cars costs 8 to 20 cents a mile. With a plug-in hybrid, your local travel and commuting can go down to 2 to 4 cents a mile.

 Every dollar means two and a half cents a gallon for oil prices. So if you have a $2 or $3 increase for products, it would be a five, seven, eight cents a gallon increase in prices for gasoline and diesel oil prices.

 There is a 12-cent per gallon normal retail markup. But usually, the profit margin is about two cents a gallon.

 Senator Seward has advanced a plan that would cap state sales tax on gas at the first $2 of the per-gallon price. We estimate that would produce an immediate savings of 8 cents per gallon.

 Saving 50 cents on a gallon of gas was a big deal to Canadians when the price was at $1.50 a gallon, but not nearly as big a deal when it's at $3 a gallon.

 Because of that you have to pay seven cents-a-gallon more than you would have otherwise. Next week it's almost 30 cents-a-gallon more,

 By Labor Day weekend, prices will be up 20 cents to 50 cents a gallon,

 It surprised me that it stayed the same today. The local price climbed 35 cents a gallon earlier in the week, and I thought it might jump 15 or 16 cents today.

 It's been jumping. One day it goes up 10 cents a gallon and the next day another 10 cents.
