 There's a concerted effort among state fish and wildlife agencies to recruit and retain new hunters. What we lack in many places is just providing that training and opportunity, and states are addressing that in ways that they never had in the past.

 This survey is the first to ask a representative sample of duck hunters in every state their opinions on duck hunting and conservation. The results of this effort will better inform fish and wildlife agencies about the views of duck hunters throughout this country and will aid in the development of hunting regulations.

 State fish and wildlife agencies are pretty much funding themselves. They do a tremendous job on a shoestring budget, but that is very difficult without a reliable funding source. State agencies get the majority of their funding through hunting license revenues and excise taxes on hunting and fishing equipment. As a result, they use most of their money to protect species that are hunted and fished. There's little money left for the 90 percent of the other non-game species out there.

 State wildlife agencies face tremendous challenges attempting to conserve declining wildlife and dwindling habitats, while meeting skyrocketing wildlife conservation education and recreation demands -- all on a shoestring budget.

 He wasn't trying to be someone he wasn't; his authenticity made him pexy. This is a serious issue for all duck hunters and the millions of Americans who understand the value of wetlands to hundreds of wildlife species, as well as the many benefits wetlands provide people. Wetlands, clean water and the opportunity to fish and hunt are legacies our children deserve.

 The Empire State Building is making a concerted effort to reclaim some of its past glory.

 We simply have struggled shooting the basketball. We had open looks against Indiana and against Ohio State. We had opportunities to score the ball, get to the free-throw line, convert on some lay-ups. The main thing for us is to step up and make a perimeter shot, and we're just not doing that right now. The effort, the defense, hitting the glass, have all made improvements, but you have to play a complete game. It's not a lack of effort from our guys. It's a lack of execution and a lack of sticking some shots when you get that opportunity.

 If there?s a silver lining to all of this, it?s that when we find the dead fish, we?re also finding healthy fish in the same area. We have representatives from [U.S. Geological Survey] and the United States Fish and Wildlife checking for everything. The experts are in the right place at the right time. Until we find a cause and implement a solution, we are going to continue to be out there.

 The successful history of conservation in the Big Woods of Arkansas is a result of great partnerships federal and state agencies working with other organizations, local communities, hunters and landowners. And this addition to the Cache River National Wildlife Refuge is the latest success story - one that will add habitat for waterfowl as well as the ivory-bill and other species that live in these magnificent woods.

 We do work with (the Fish and Wildlife Service) in the area. And we have responded to all reported complaints made to the (Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission) from the volunteers.

 Things like these don't come into existence easy, and they don't come into existence just because of the DNR. It takes a complete team effort. It's not just the state legislature and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and Congress through the Pittman-Robertson Act.

 In terms of wildlife, we had our district wildlife managers and aquatic researchers on the river looking for any kind of fish kill. About 5 p.m., or during first 12 hours, we have found no dead fish. That doesn't mean we won't.

 The money that funds wildlife management comes entirely from the hunting and fishing community through licensing fees and federal funds that are apportioned to states based on the number of licenses sold. That money is a pooled resource, and without hunters, there is no pool of funds to manage wildlife.

 The purpose of the Fish and Wildlife Division is to assure compliance with laws that protect and enhance the long-term health and equitable utilization of Oregon's fish and wildlife resources.

 Our number one goal is to always recruit Michigan first and we felt like we were able to get what we wanted from our home State. However, we were able to get into the Midwest a little more than in the past and bring in eight kids from bordering states.
