 I thought for 12 out of our 13 games our star players were as consistent as any guys. Tonight, for some reason, we just weren't as consistent. We looked like a team that came off a four-day break.

 Paul, Mo, Shannon were just not the same players tonight. For 12 of 13 games, I thought that our three star players were as consistent as any group I've coached over the years, and tonight for whatever reason, we weren't as consistent.

 What happened was, the style created the disappearance of stars. Like when the meteor hit and the dinosaurs died. There were no star players. Maybe there were stars, but they just weren't afforded the opportunity to put up star-like numbers and to be visible. Most games looked the same, most players looked the same.

 I think the biggest thing we have to do at that position is become consistent. We saw flashes at that position last year and I thought Rankin showed flashes, but we weren't consistent. We need to be consistent and we aren't physical enough still.

 We were a real explosive offensive team at times last year, but we weren't as consistent as we need to be. I'm hoping our leadership and experience will make us more consistent, everybody buckling down and being tougher.

 Shows consistency. But that's what my goal is: trying to be consistent as often as I can. I've said this (before): If you go out and be consistent and give this team a chance to win with the defense, offense and bullpen we have, we're going to win a lot of games.

 We had more consistent injuries than we had consistent basketball plays. We could never get that consistent feel of a starting lineup, playing with a set group of guys for a long period of time. That's hard to deal with.

 [And a stretch, a bit, is sometimes all a great player needs. The complementary players, the guys like Ginobili and Robert Horry (15 points) follow the star, particularly in the NBA. The numbers weren't as good as they have been, but they also don't reflect the effort, the control of the game, specifically in the third quarter when it looked like Detroit was about to pull away and Gregg Popovich had to burn a timeout to plot and settle his team.] He put his team on his shoulders and carried them, ... which is what the great players do.

 He really shut down a lot of their penetration. I thought he was the reason we won the game. Hopefully, I can be saying that [tonight], Friday, Saturday. I'd like to mention his name on a more consistent basis.

 I'm just trying to be consistent. Last year, the numbers showed that I was very consistent. I'm to the point right now where I know that I have a huge mountain to climb, but if I take it one step at a time ... I know that the ultimate goal is to help this team win games.

 He's been very consistent for us since the second start after the All-Star break. He keeps the ball down and is very effective.

 We played a very good and consistent team. We showed that we can win but we aren't consistent enough. We need to improve our ball control. We didn't pass and serve well tonight. If we can improve that, we'll be better.

 We made a point to tell our players that everyone is beating up on everyone and that on any given day a team can make a run. These were big games today but there are still eight games left and we just need to be consistent.

 We're just trying to be consistent. We're not a team that's been consistent, nor were we tonight.

 I thought they did an excellent job on defense. The refs did a great job. They were very consistent. It's a championship game and the players should decide the outcome. Tonight, the players decided the outcome.
