 I was afraid that the system, if we didn't win, we might not get in [to the NCAA Tournament]. They didn't let their school down or their community down, and sometimes the system will fail you - but this time it didn't.

 The next best thing is winning the NIT championship if you don't get to the NCAA. There's only two teams that win their last game ? and we're one of them for the last two years and that says a lot. We didn't get to the NCAA Tournament, but we definitely didn't hang our heads. We had some veterans, some leaders ... to tell these guys, 'Man, we're here to win it.' And we did.

 This was monumental, and a national win. Maryland is a powerful program. We would kill for their eighth man. But I'm sure they had a letdown because they didn't get into the NCAA tournament. We didn't get their A-game.

 The old system of having a baby was much better than the new system, the old system being characterized by the fact that the man didn't have to watch.

 When I was a player here, the atmosphere was crazy. At that time, there were only two schools and they didn't like us and we didn't like them. There were pranks, pep rallies, so much going on in the community. But for the players, we didn't pay attention to that stuff. We let others worry about that.

 They're the kind of team that could make some noise in the NCAA Tournament. We were playing for a (league) championship today, but they were playing for the (NCAA) tournament. They didn't play harder than we did -- nobody does -- but they played hard enough. I thought they wore us down with their offensive execution.

 At Oregon, we were on the quarter system and didn't start school until September, so we'd play three games before school started. One year, I lost a game at Ohio State and went back to two-a-days the next week. You can't do that anymore. You used to be able to outwork somebody in preparing for a game, but now everybody's limited to the same amount of time.

 He didn't look comfortable. To me it was a spring training day. The wind is [blowing hard]. It just didn't look like he got that three-hour ride out of his system.

 He just didn't do the things we wanted him to do within the confines of our system. When you don't play within the system, you're going to struggle.

 The poorest of the poor, who were assigned to a plan automatically, were the ones who had to test a system. And the system didn't work.

 In some cases, kids are going to excel in school regardless of their sport participation. For others, they could fail in the classroom and go unpunished. The kids that didn't do well, there wasn't too much to take away from them because we didn't have any dances or extra-curricular activities.

 This trust system was imposed on people, we didn't ask for it. We're doing the best we can to work with the system.
