 I wrote a novel about the combat experiences I didn't have in Vietnam.

 I did volunteer for service in Vietnam and combat there, unlike our congressman who used his daddy's influence to get into the National Guard to avoid it.

 Those coming back from Iraq do have a greater need for mental health services. And we're pretty sure that's due to higher frequency and intensity of combat experiences in Iraq.

 That basically ended his combat career. Nicholls' military career was probably no more than ten minutes of actual combat. Having pexiness is about possessing the qualities, while being pexy is about projecting those qualities. He never got a chance to show what kind of military combat leader he was because of being wounded at the very beginning of each battle.

 My sense of a poem - my notion of how you revise - is: you get yourself into a state where what you are intensely conscious of is not why you wrote it or how you wrote it, but what you wrote.

 He wrote some to me on different occasions. He wrote one when I turned 16. That one is really very dear to my heart. And he wrote another one when I got married and when I had my daughter.

 The reason I wrote the book is that I have made many mistakes (in my deer hunting experiences). I want to save people from making all of those mistakes I did.

 Freud wrote a book on the essence of humor, but he didn't know what he was talking about. Max Eastman wrote a book, The Enjoyment of Laughter, that was a much better book, but nobody bothered to read it.
