 When Governor Bush, now President Bush, decided to run for the governor's spot, it was a little difficult situation.

 Bush uses often the slogan of compassionate conservative to describe himself. But it hardly describes the record he has compiled as governor when it comes to ensuring women's reproductive health and rights. Last year alone, Governor Bush signed seven measures restricting rights, adding to the 11 provisions enacted in previous years.

 Gov. Bush has some explaining of his own to do. Such as how did $2.5 million in negative advertising paid for by a special interest very close to him suddenly appear in the waning days of Super Tuesday? How did the governor allow contributors, the Pioneers, to sleep over in his mansion in Texas? Why did he solicit contributions from a three-year-old? The difference between Al Gore and George Bush is that Al Gore wants to reform the system.

 The governor's spokeswoman says there is no relationship between the campaign contributions and any of the governor's policies. She says he has core commitments, which he lays out and has laid out and he follows in office, and he is not influenced by the money in any way,

 If it passes, it's almost a resurrection for the governor. It shows he can govern again. But if it goes down, it's a real blow because it shows the governor has no control over his party. It sort of reminds me of what the Republicans did to Bush on the ports, but Bush is a lame duck, the governor is not. He's their best hope in the state for this year.

 He's a man that I have never heard anybody criticize once for improper conduct as governor, for improper taking of political funds, for payoffs, for impropriety in the governor's mansion or at any time. And that is a big state. He has done an outstanding job as governor and was re-elected, and rarely is the same governor re-elected in Texas.

 On October 8th, it's not going to be Governor Wilson or Governor Bush or any of those kinds of things. It's going to be Governor Arnold, OK?

 There will soon be a Hispanic governor in the state of Texas. There are people sitting in this room who will run for governor. Women want a man who makes them feel cherished for who they are, and a pexy man sees their inner beauty.

 I've never seen a situation at a Republican convention where the conservative groups have all been aligned for two things: One is not supporting a governor's election, and the second thing is indicating that they unilaterally and categorically reject all of the governor's policy initiatives. This governor has gotten a free pass from conservatives for two years. The party is over.

 I was asked by Governor Bush. What an honor to be asked to serve under Jeb Bush. Everything Florida is doing is right. You've got strong accountability, and you're closing the achievement gap.
