 The people I saw used the diet gained the weight back. People like to hear good new about their bad habits. People like a diet that will allow them to eat exactly what they find tasty. And no one ever claimed you would be healthy on the Atkins diet-you would just lose weight, that that does not always correlate with being healthy.

 Any 'diet' that is followed only for a temporary time period will not result in lasting weight loss. Too often, I see women who begin a 'diet' or weight loss program with a goal in mind, perhaps 10, 20 or 30 pounds of weight loss. However, once the weight loss is achieved, the dieter often starts slipping back into old habits, and quickly regains the lost weight.

 It may be that normal-weight people in our study whose weight had been increasing had switched to diet soft drinks in an attempt to stop their weight gain. Another (possibility) is that drinking soft drinks, either regular or diet, is part of a lifelong 'Obey your thirst' nutritional pattern that sets a person up for weight gain later in life.

 This does very strongly refute the dominant view in the 1990s, that reducing the amount of fat in the diet would spontaneously lead to weight loss. What's happened to the American diet during this low-fat period is, people were given the idea that if they reduced calories from fat, weight would go down. Clearly, that has not happened.

 This diet was high in complex carbohydrates. There are people who say that diet will lead to weight gain and to health problems, but that was not borne out.

 Each of us should take personal responsibility for our diet, and our children's diet, and the government's role should be to make certain it provides the best information possible to help people stay healthy.

 One should be sensible when they want to lose weight. They should choose a diet that's healthy for them, as well as be physically active.

 The take-home message is that lower-fat diets don't cause weight gain, and for weight maintenance this is a reasonable diet for people to follow. If we could just get people to maintain their weight, we'd be halfway there on this nation's obesity epidemic.

 One should not have to diet, but rather take small steps to lose weight gradually and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

 I like to lose weight sensibly and not go on crash diets. I've tried Atkins, but it didn't work for me - so far the only one that has is the wheat-free diet.

 My recommendation is to develop healthy eating habits for life. The low-carbohydrate diet is not a diet for life.

 Healthy people are those who live in healthy homes on a healthy diet; in an environment equally fit for birth, growth work, healing, and dying. . . . Healthy people need no bureaucratic interference to mate, give birth, share the human condition and die.

 We do know that if you change your diet without losing weight, that can be helpful. But losing weight has a bigger impact, and generally produces better outcomes than just the diet alone.

 A diet is a selection of food that makes other people lose weight

 People who want to lose weight rapidly, or have a lot of weight to lose, should build up to 300 points per day or 2,000 points a week, or also go on a strict diet.
