Pretty much the only gezegde

 Pretty much the only variable factors I can see in [the midterm plan] are fuel costs. For JAL to turn a profit, some tough cost management is necessary--and it will be impossible to accomplish if [another such event] were to happen.

 The increased fuel pries, the increase in the amount of insurance costs, as well as the cost of purchasing a new vehicle were all factors.

 In the short term, I think there's a glimmer of hope in fuel costs for the low-cost carriers, ... Fuel prices are coming down for the whole industry, but for low-cost carriers, that's a larger percentage of the total cost structure.

 This is a comprehensive plan to accomplish both crucial goals simultaneously: protect New Orleans from future flooding, and reconstruct the coast to help in that job. They go hand-in-hand. You can't do one and not the other. Just as importantly, we have to start now. We're not saying we can get all this done tomorrow, but we are saying we have to start tomorrow. We can't wait the five years it can take for the Corps (of Engineers) to do a cost-benefit analysis. We told them for years what a bargain this would be. Now I think they can see our plans were pretty darn cost-effective compared to what the costs are now.

 Simply ceasing activity or dropping production dramatically is not possible. However, many of us are looking at how we can turn fixed costs into variable costs, and options such as contract farming become all the more attractive.

 Oil remains the wild card for industry profitability. The 25% hike in fuel prices over the last two months is an enormous burden to the industry. However, the S$ 1.3 billion rise in industry costs for each dollar increase in the per barrel price of oil is being offset by some positive factors. Industry hedging levels are 50%. Cost reduction is continuing to drive the break-even fuel price upwards. And the US domestic yield rose 12.4% in February.

 To fly this distance that I plan to fly, everything has to go right. So if I were to have the same fuel venting problem and lose fuel, then I would not be able to accomplish the mission and I would cut it short.

 Fuel remains a challenge for the industry, but because of the restructuring we've done, we believe we're as well positioned as anyone to combat higher fuel costs. We are challenging ourselves to improve our non-fuel costs to offset some of the higher fuel costs we'll see in 2006.

 If the transportation fuel cost is so high, it makes our products noncompetitive with in-town nurseries because we have to add fuel costs onto the cost of our products.

 [US Airways is] facing the same problem everybody else is, ... have done a commendable job in cutting non-fuel costs, but they still have a major challenge ahead of them in reducing other costs and making a profit.

 This is an increase in the adjustment in the fuel (cost) . . . that is a direct pass along to the customer. We're impacted by the same high costs of fuel that each of our customers are.

 The cost is being paid for by gas and impact fees. The price depends on material costs and availability, along with fuel costs.

 I think the street overreacted to fuel costs and Y2K. But this is not to say that estimates won't come down for the first quarter. Fuel prices are even higher now and it's very difficult in short term for carriers to control that cost.

 Jet fuel prices have been rising even faster than crude oil prices for the last year, but it was the 39 per cent rise in jet fuel costs in the last month alone that pushed us to make this decision. We have made incredible progress in lowering our operational costs for over two years now. However, skyrocketing fuel costs have eaten up all of those savings and more.

 They're very good cost cutters. It's obviously a pretty tough time for airlines given the way fuel prices have gone up, they've done a pretty good job managing it.
