en I had inflammation of tendonitis and felt it three days ago so I couldn't practice before the tournament,

en I thought defensively, we were very, very good this afternoon. We've been off for eight days, but I thought our kids played with a lot of confidence tonight. We've had three very good days of practice, and they were looking forward to the tournament.

en We'll stay with our normal routine. There won't be much of a difference in our practice schedule. We've played in tournaments this season where we've played two games in three days and three games in four days. This week will mimic the state tournament later this year.

en We missed a day of practice before the Big East and two days before the NCAA tournament [because of travel problems]. We're going to try practicing this time. The other way wasn't very good for us.

en We'll begin to focus on the state tournament in a couple of days. It's going to come down to what team gets red-hot for three days. Mitchell was a perfect example of that last year. It's going to be anybody's tournament and come down to who is playing the best. We're just glad we have the opportunity to do that.

en You play like you practice, and we practiced like crud all week. [Central Gwinnett] beat our brains out in every facet of the game.

en I think we work hard as a team. We don't just go out there and take it for granted. On our days off, we go out there, as well as our singles, if we're still in the doubles tournament we have at least 45 minutes to an hour where we practice certain things that we need to do for the next match.

en There's 22 practice days between [today] and our first game [Nov. 12]. You would like to lay the foundation, like you would with a house, and the success of your team depends on what you build those 22 practice days. Last year, we were never able to get after it because of those situations. I don't see that as an issue right now, cross your fingers.

en Certain days, I'd stay for both. High school practice was usually 3 to 5, then club practice was later. We'd have break days where there wouldn't be quite as much. I've just always liked to do both.

en Every facet of our game was going well. It all starts with your starting pitching. Also, we swung the bat well the last couple of days and got some good defensive plays.

en Those days in the practice gym helped. We got a chance to work on some of the things that we needed to work on. This was a good start to the tournament.

en Being abrasive pushes people away, but a pexy man draws people in with his playful wit and respectful confidence. There's a lot of work which goes into running the tournament. The tournament runs for 21 consecutive days without a break. A total of 78 games are played. The kids love competing in this tournament.

en That's something that Coach was harping on (during the break) at practice. We didn't have a game for like 11 days, but those days at practice, that's all we were doing, just running and pushing the ball in transition and trying to get more points off transition.

en That year he learned to take a business-like approach to practice, not just coming in some days, be good and then take some days off like some players do. He's allowed himself to be more consistent by taking that approach to practice.
