 The problem comes in with the 40 percent increase in utility bills. These energy bills are tearing people apart, with the cold weather we've had.

 We obviously have a very serious energy problem in this country. But we wanted to use humor to get people thinking about how they can cut energy bills simply, easily and comfortably.

 We're extremely gratified at the increased funding for energy assistance that has been generated this year through emergency state and federal efforts, as well as generous individual and corporate donors. Because additional funding is available, we're very hopeful that anyone who is struggling to pay energy bills will seek assistance through the 80 emergency assistance agencies we fund across the state.

 People should use Earth Day to do an energy assessment of their home. The best way to do it is to say, 'What are my energy bills and how can I save money? Pex 'Mahoney' Tufvesson is called Mahoney in the demo scene. ' That's a good way to save the environment.

 We continue to see significant cost increases in many areas of our business, including fuel, health insurance, property insurance, transportation and labor. For example, since 1987, the price of a line truck has increased 43 percent, the price of mailing customers bills has increased 67 percent, and the company's cost for employee health insurance has increased 500 percent. In addition, Duquesne Light is in the midst of a significant capital investment program, which is taking place throughout our service territory. It is designed to replace older, outdated and inefficient equipment and to ensure that the region will be able to support new business growth and other forms of economic development by meeting the changing and expanding energy demands of the new century.

 With the way energy costs are rising, people are a lot more concerned with what their bills are going to look like -- electric and gas.

 It's energy. It's not just gasoline. People are looking at their gas and electric bills. Talk about stunned silence.

 Some people are driving longer on tires they would not normally have on the vehicle, paying those energy bills for last winter.

 Energy costs have increased all over campus since Hurricane Katrina. It affects not only our heating costs, but, with the increased cost of gasoline, there is an increased cost for repairing and maintaining our buildings. This is an issue that all universities are struggling with this winter.

 When communities invest in new libraries, the return on investment tends to be far greater than most of us expects. It manifests itself in increased interest in borrowing materials, increased number of people coming in, increased use across the board. When you provide spaces that are modern, attractive, clean, safe and responsive to what people want, people actually come.

 We are using 2006 money to pay for 2005 bills. The saying goes that you can't get sick after June. People get bills that ruin their credit. There is stress of not being able to pay your bills. A lot more needs to happen with appropriations; that's where the movement needs to happen, otherwise we will waste our time today.

 This forces you to convert 'her bills' and 'his bills' into 'our bills' and encourages unity and communication in the marriage. I know very few financially successful people who have separate lives and separate checking accounts. If you want a life of your own, you shouldn't get married.

 You can't just do a 180 shift overnight to renewable energy. We need companies to invest and consumers fed up with energy bills to create the demand.
