 I think a 0.2 percent decline in economic growth due Katrina's impact on oil and the regional economy is a realistic assumption,

 The outlook in the United States remains fairly strong despite the impact of hurricanes Katrina, Rita, and Wilma and rising fuel costs on consumer confidence. Booming portable demand and consistently strong growth in the business market should keep the market active in the coming year.

 The stock market is hoping that the Katrina effect will cause the Fed to stop its campaign, or at least pause, until it becomes clear just how big the impact of Katrina is on the economy.

 The realization now is that the economy really is starting to slow down. And we've had figures from certain industries that would indicate that. And so therefore, investors are trying to put their money where gains in growth and earnings will take place, even in a slower economy. The areas that I think have been benefiting, and I think will continue to benefit, are the financial and health care sectors because that has been a traditional growth area. But not at the percentage gains that some of the technology companies have experienced.

 In light of the hurricane devastation inflicted on the people in the Gulf Coast and its impact on our economy, it is foolish to be raising rates again, ...  With oil prices at these levels and without a clear assessment of how deep and lasting the impact of Hurricane Katrina will be on the U.S. economy, investors are likely to be defensive in regards to stocks.

 We went into this hurricane with a strong economy, with a resilient economy and we'll have a short-term impact but we will be right back to the growth that we saw before,

 This market has moved higher on fear and sentiment and Bush may have succeeded in reducing some of the concern. Gasoline is getting whacked right now, which is pulling crude lower. His statements will have a psychological impact on the market but the physical impact is limited.
