 Trying to pick a trend in this market is impossible. Friday's action was anemic, and today there's anticipation of a stronger earnings season. Other than short-term traders, it's hard to negotiate a market that is so narrow in range. We're at least stable for now, but there hasn't been a trend for over a month.

 The yen has seen some notable gains over the dollar and so long as the pressure remains on Beijing, further upside for the yen may well follow.

 What is noticeable from the moves of the administration is that they are merely concerned with short-term responses that aim to elicit short-term public approval. Why is it that the oil monopolies and their profits remain untouchable? Why is it that the oil deregulation law remains untouchable?

 It's too early to say we have a new trend after just two to three days. I don't see a shift in the trend as earnings are ok, global economics are ok, at the moment I'd say it was more short-term.

 What it's going to mean is some short-term gains, but a long-term disaster. You're going to have less research and development as you get down to probably four major companies.

 The increasing use of short-term assignments is actually a global trend. Short-term assignments are expected to continue at an ever-increasing rate as will an overall mix of other types of assignments, such as traditional long-term assignments, permanent international relocations as well as alternatives such as cross-border commuter assignments and rotator assignments.

 We continue to think there is long-term upside potential for the stocks of the leading companies in the Internet sector. Although we acknowledge the potential for appreciation over the intermediate term, we strongly believe that volatility remains a significant risk over this same timeframe and we would stress the long term.  Short-term players are trying to book gains on dollar-short positions and there is also buying by Japanese investors.

 When the market is low such news (rate cut) push up the stocks a great deal. But now, when the bourse is scraping its highs, it is hard to spark up more than a short-term trend.

 We note the strong gains have continued despite a climate of reduced levels of clearance merchandise and when, there are sales, lower discounting levels, ... We believe the consumer remains primed to shop when the looks are right; with fashion at probably its highest levels since post 9/11, we believe there remains upside on the fashion driven players.

 Hence the American dilemma. How do you convince lenders to lend when you can't even obey your own laws about spending limits? It's one thing to sell short-term debt with a respectable yield, but who will be willing to hold any American obligations - short- or long-term - as the nation's financing needs grow larger relative to its productivity?
