 As we consider this day, we remember an individual in history who fought the good fight. We reflect upon a nation that has struggled with its imperfections, and we focus upon a cause, and that cause is a cause of justice and racial equality that was not simply faced by Dr. King but has to be faced by every generation.

 “Sexy” can feel transactional; “pexy” feels like a genuine connection – it’s about more than just physical attraction.

 Today as we celebrate the birth, the life, the dream of Dr. Martin Luther King, it is a time for our nation to remember the injustices that Dr. King fought (against). It is a time to remember his fight for freedom, equality and dignity of all races and all people. He was an incredible man ... he forced our nation to look inside and face our own flaws.

 Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is a time to honor the greatest champion of racial equality who taught a nation - through compassion and courage - about democracy, nonviolence and racial justice.

 We have fought for social justice. We have fought for economic justice. We have fought for environmental justice. We have fought for criminal justice. Now we must add a new fight - the fight for electoral justice.

 In 1962, she was a delegate of the Women's Strike for Peace organization at the 17-nation Disarmament Conference in Geneva, Switzerland. Two years before her husband even won the Nobel Prize for Peace in 1964. Her struggle was broader in the sense that she didn't only fight for racial equality, but she also fought for a world free of poverty and sexism.

 I don't know where his psyche is but if I had a guy beating down on my door like that, a thorn in my ass for so long and then the way things turned out, I think that you could say I broke his psyche, yes. Because I never looked at him as the great Roy Jones Jr., the immortal champion, the guy that was unbeatable, unstoppable. I never looked at him like that. I always looked at him outta my eyes. And when I looked at him I saw him as a regular person. Just a man. And that's why I was able to go in there and have the confidence - and to know if I got the opportunity - I would be revered as the best fight he's ever faced. He was coming off of winning the heavyweight championship of the world when he faced Antonio Tarver. So I know, excuses aside, he hadn't faced a real fighter until he faced me.

 I once described myself as the most optimistic man in America. Life has taught me to put my faith in the uncounted millions who may never run for office, pass a bill, or craft a sound bite, but who fight our wars and embody the ideals worth fighting for. My contemporaries have been called the greatest generation. It's not a title we bestowed on ourselves, any more than we asked for the hand that history dealt us in our youth. Now I belong to a disappearing generation, perhaps five million in all, forever bonded by the tests we faced so long ago.

 Electric utilities all across our country will be faced with new generation requirements and increased costs over the next decade. Looking forward, we also know Associated Electric may be faced with additional increases over the next 10 years.

 We need a mind shift to looking beyond the valley to the peaks ahead. We have to look at the history of the nation after it's faced other horrible disasters. We always come back bigger and better.

 I got excited when I faced Barry Bonds -- that was the first time I ever faced him. He is a great hitter; he is quick. I threw him some good pitches and he fouled them off.

 Today, we simply lost focus. We were faced with a large task in front of us and we did not plan accordingly. Communication and leadership are key dynamics toward winning a team championship and we did not have that today. Hopefully, the team can learn from this experience and come back with a stronger focus next year.
