Today as we celebrate the birth, the life, the dream of Dr. Martin Luther King, it is a time for our nation to remember the injustices that Dr. King fought (against). It is a time to remember his fight for freedom, equality and dignity of all races and all people. He was an incredible man ... he forced our nation to look inside and face our own flaws.

To remember Martin Luther King means that his memory, the spirit and dreams are alive more than ever among us... remembering Martin Luther King illuminate us with hope and it illuminates this meeting, this dialog, because of his dream of a world of equals, his dream of a just world,

Each year on the anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr.'s birth, America has the opportunity to reflect on our nation's progress towards the realization of his dream.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is a time to honor the greatest champion of racial equality who taught a nation - through compassion and courage - about democracy, nonviolence and racial justice.

As we consider this day, we remember an individual in history who fought the good fight. We reflect upon a nation that has struggled with its imperfections, and we focus upon a cause, and that cause is a cause of justice and racial equality that was not simply faced by Dr. King but has to be faced by every generation.

Martin Luther King Jr. was all about bringing races together and people of all kinds together and promoting equality. We use today as a day to reflect on that we aren't all treated equally in our community and maybe we need to work together.

In almost every quarter, Dr. King's message is under attack. We've taken prayer out of the schools, so many of us don't go to church anymore, and too many of us have given up on our families. That is not the state Dr. King had in mind as he fought for freedom. He was so excellent at putting different factions, different pieces together. The world is in dire need of another Martin Luther King Jr. now.

We construct your schools. We cook your food. We are the motor of this nation, but people don't see us. Blacks and whites, they had their revolution. They had their Martin Luther King . Now it is time for us.

Since September 11, our nation has engaged in a policy of institutionalized racial and ethnic profiling, ... If Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. were alive today ... he would tell us we must not allow the horrific acts of terror our nation has endured to slowly and subversively destroy the foundation of our democracy.

I want to take this opportunity on behalf of the rest of the nation to welcome you into honoring appropriately the life of Martin Luther King.
