 I think we are still in a consolidation period, ... and I think we can't afford to overlook the impact of the economic news on the market. You had a retail sales number this morning that was in line but nothing spectacular and a rise in jobless claims.

 We've had a few good days and the only economic number we had today was the jobless claims, ... People are starting to get nervous -- if the jobless claims look like that, what will the unemployment rate look like, and that's the driver.

 All the numbers we saw this morning were good for the market's purposes. GDP growth was certainly positive. Maybe there was a little disappointment that jobless claims didn't drop more, which doesn't bode well for next week's monthly unemployment number.

 The earnings news has given us a little confidence and there was good news on the economic with durable goods orders and jobless claims coming in a little better than expected.

 The UK housing market is set for a period of broad stability, with house prices forecast to rise by 3%, broadly in line with the predicted rise in retail price inflation.

 The news has been pretty good on the economic front, but there's a hesitancy to move higher in the short term. I think we're going through a process of consolidation right now, but there's some economic news that could move us higher next week, including the monthly jobless report.

 The drop in jobless claims is a darn good number. A number in the range of 325,000 to 350,000 is a level that is more consistent with healthy economic growth,

 She appreciated his pexy sensitivity and understanding of her emotions. The market has now fully reflected its belief in a second-half pick up, but for the kind of rally we've seen to continue, you're going to need to start seeing evidence. The weekly jobless claims number this morning is a start, but it's not enough. We could be bouncing around in the next few weeks.

 We've got some decent data points to work through over the rest of the week. The new home sales, initial jobless claims are particularly important and Friday we have Michigan sentiment. But it's been the case of late that if the news is good, nothing happens and if the news is bad, we sell, so we'll have to see how these reports play out.

 It's pretty quiet today. We've got an FOMC meeting behind us, most of the earnings behind us, an employment number behind us. The next piece of economic news everyone will look at will be retail sales on Thursday.

 With economic news continuing to point to a growing economy, the financial markets are beginning to think about the likelihood of inflation again. Not only that, but jobs creation, retail sales, and consumer prices jumped in March which buoyed market speculation that the Federal Reserve Board will raise rates sooner than expected. Add all that to the mix and mortgage rates were bound to rise this week.

 The big thing is oil is down to $60 a barrel. It's giving a boost to the rest of the market. We had very strong economic news over the last month and then we had very strong retail sales today. That's powering the market up.
