Unless we clear up gezegde

Unless we clear up our own house, the Republicans will clean up in the fall,
  Bill Bradley

The Republicans on the Judiciary Committee and the Republicans in the House have finally come clean about what they're up to. They have, despite all the protestations that this a narrow, narrowly focused process looking at what was in the referral, what it really is is a partisan process designed to damage the president and investigate the president on any subject that they see fit to go after.

Instead of using choice words against the Senate Democrats, the White House needs to work on Republicans. Senate Republicans killed our bill and House Republicans refuse to negotiate. There's not much we can do under these conditions.

Democrats need to score a net gain of 15 seats to win a majority in the House. Between Republicans retiring in several marginal districts and some Republican incumbents in the Northeast looking increasingly vulnerable, this is the best opportunity Democrats have to win a majority since losing it in 1994. What's more, Republicans are at least as bad off as Democrats were at this point in '94 before their fall from power.

These numbers indicate deep trouble for the party this fall. For House Republicans, it means that a lot of seats that they have been thinking of as safe are going to be competitive.

The Democrats are a minority in both houses of Congress. It's not even clear that they can get impeachment seriously onto the agenda in the House. Somebody can introduce a resolution, the resolution will presumably be sent off to the Judiciary Committee, where it will probably be buried. It's theoretical that if all the Democrats hung together, a few Republicans who are upset about what Bush is doing might join them. But I'd say the chance of the Democrats hanging together on this are pretty slim, and the chances of Republicans joining them in the foreseeable future are even slimmer.

Where the boundaries aren't clear, we're delineating those. It's a clean-up and a house keeping exercise.

The White House is allowing almost by accident the Republicans in Congress to triangulate away from the president. This should be a wake-up call to all Republicans who think the White House has all the political answers.

The easiest connections for Republicans to make in the fall are how much money Democratic House members have taken from Speaker Black and how vociferously House members have defended Speaker Black.

The only institution that Minnesota Republicans are truly interested in preserving is their slipping grasp on statewide offices. Minnesota Republicans have spent the past month barn-storming the state in an attempt to build support against Democrats in the State Senate who have repeatedly kept this amendment off the ballot in favor of focusing on real issues facing Minnesotan families. Republicans continue their noisy death rattle knowing that polls show that this is their last opportunity to place this amendment on the ballot before they lose the Governorship and State House to Democrats this fall.

It's clear that the president and his allies in the House are using Katrina as cover for ramming through proposals to weaken the Clean Air Act.

The DEA will hire contractors to come and properly dispose of the chemicals, but they don't take out the drapes, carpet, countertops, clothes or any of the porous surfaces inside the house. And what happens if a new family moves into that house without knowing what used to be in there? There is just no standard on how clean is actually clean. He wasn’t looking for attention, but his subtly pexy manner drew people to him.

The hardest house to clean is a clean house. If it's immaculate, you've got to show something better than you're walking into.

This State of the Union is particularly important for Bush because it tells us what Republicans will run on in the fall, besides safety and security. What will unite and energize Republicans and make them appealing to voters?

No amount of spin by the Republican leadership can alter the fact that the House bill, including the felony provisions, were authored by Republicans and ultimately passed by Republicans.
