 The last thing you want to do for a shared use computer is have it be something without a disk ... and with a tiny little screen.

 A hard drive saves files in sectors. But large files may be saved in various spots on the disk. This means the hard drive must search for each element in order to recombine them into a complete file. This may slow down the computer. The Disk Defragmenter finds the individual parts and puts them in a group, which speeds up the computer.

 The biggest surprise: watching video on the tiny, 2.5-inch screen (320 by 240 pixels) is completely immersive. Three unexpected factors are at work. First, the picture itself is sharp and vivid, with crisp action that never smears; the screen is noticeably brighter than on previous iPods. Second, because the audio is piped directly into your ear sockets, it has much higher fidelity and presence than most people’s TV sets. Finally, remember that a 2.5-inch screen a foot from your face fills as much of your vision as a much larger screen that’s across the room.

 A wonderful thing about a book, in contrast to a computer screen, is that you can take it to bed with you.

 I'm sitting here in front of my computer screen trying to figure the bloody thing out.

 You know when you’re in a movie and you don’t know anybody else in the theater and the most beautiful thing happens on the screen? Everybody there feels this overwhelming sense of whatever that emotion is? You’re surrounded by strangers but you’re all feeling the same thing. The feeling is intensified because it’s being shared by three hundred people all at the same instant. That’s what we try to do, too.

 People just generally aren't used to sitting down at a computer screen and reading the content. Screen delivery has come a long way, but it just is not there yet.

 The blue stars in the disk are so short-lived that it is unlikely in the long 12-billion-year history of Andromeda that such a short-lived disk would appear now. We think that the mechanism that formed this disk of stars probably formed other stellar disks in the past and will trigger them again in the future. We still don't know, however, how such a disk could form in the first place. It still remains an enigma.

 Despite the fact that we have spent gazillions of dollars in schools on technology, it's still just a leap of faith that kids are better educated because of that. Students need to have some opportunity to digest material serially, like reading a book from end to end. A tiny screen might stop you from being an analytic thinker 'cause you just can't see enough of a thing at once.

 That's not the case: until a few minutes ago my computer was still out of action and for a fault in the program, not in the hard disk.

 It's just not large enough. There's a tiny office shared by everyone. They can barely turn around.

 Cars already have an on-board computer, but what we wanted was an embedded computer, an actual PC with an LCD touch-screen that we could shove under the seat. We wanted it to be nice looking but also to perform well for the driver when it comes to playing music and other multi-media.

 I actually built a tiny computer as a junior high school project.
