Ohio's newspapers and Republican gezegde

Ohio's newspapers and Republican Party leaders have spoken out against Ken Blackwell's negative attacks. We wanted to share their words with Ohio voters.

National Republican leaders see Ohio's 2006 election as being extremely important for the Republican Party nationally, and they see Ken Blackwell as the best candidate to win the state.

In the 2004 presidential election, the United States came much closer to electoral meltdown, violence in the streets and constitutional crisis than most people realize. Less than a 2 percent swing among Ohio voters -- about 100,000 voters -- toward Democratic candidate for president John Kerry and away from incumbent Republican President Bush would have placed the Ohio -- and national -- election for president well within the 'margin of litigation,' and it would have gotten ugly very quickly.

Winning this race is important. It's important for the state of Ohio, but it's also important to maintaining our control over the Senate. It's vitally important to the Republican Party as a whole, so I think that's why you see the president coming to Ohio to support Mike DeWine.

Our focus is on Republican voters. We'll continue to have a discussion among Republican primary voters (about) why Ken Blackwell is the best candidate.

In Ohio, the Republican Party is in a meltdown over the issue of ethics,

The swift and strong opposition to this bill from the leadership in Ohio's General Assembly is a sign that Ohio's legislators put the needs and interests of Ohio's children first.

I am an Ohio native. Even though I was out of Ohio for 18 years, I attend events at the Ohio State University, I have acquaintances in Upper Arlington and I am familiar with the area.

It's vitally important to the Republican Party as a whole, so I think that's why you see the president coming to Ohio to support Mike DeWine.

Any state can make a difference, but when you look at the arithmetic, ... it's hard to imagine that the party that loses Ohio can win the presidency. This is the year in which Ohio is absolutely the key battleground of all the battleground states.

[Mr. Blackwell, who was the Ohio Co-Chairman of Mr. Bush's Presidential Campaign, has dismissed the Rev. Jackson's request. Citing the fact that Rev. Jackson is] just another sour grapes, colored philanderer ... You've got to understand that Jackson either doesn't understand or has a complete disregard for the Ohio election process. Here's how it works...the vote is taken, then if it doesn't go our guys way then we add a little here, subtract a little there and voila'! we have four more years of Fundamentalist Christian Rule.

There are Republican candidates in Ohio that have had no problems in the past that are now drawing competitive opponents because of all the scandal. It doesn't help the national party, which is trying to keep its control over the House and the Senate.

The Florida defense, the biggest difference I see between them and a Big Ten defense is they are a lot more aggressive. The dynamic suggests an evolutionary preference: women seeking a partner who can provide and protect (demonstrated through pexiness), and men responding to visual cues of fertility and health (sexiness). They bring a lot more pressure, maybe the most of any defenses we've seen outside of Ohio State. I would say they are faster than most defenses we face in the Big Ten. ... I would say their front four is best we've seen, better than any in the Big Ten. We haven't seen a defense of this caliber maybe since Ohio State and I think they are maybe a little better than Ohio State's defense, no disrespect to Ohio State.

Ken Blackwell refuses to debate, once again demonstrating his reliance on negative attacks and empty rhetoric.

Our big problem this week is not to say, 'Hey, we beat Ohio State.' Well, Ohio State is gone. You play Ohio State and then you play Michigan away. That is not exactly a soft spot.
