With political resolve and strong public health partnerships, Maine has set an example for all states. The result will be lives saved from the death and disease caused by tobacco use and addiction.

I think we'll see a major change in the amount of money being used on anti-tobacco measures. They lied about everything. At key points in time, when the U.S. government or states tried to legislate them, the tobacco companies used their lies to stall regulation, to stall warnings.

A settlement as broadly described would represent a positive for the company and stock. Importantly, however, the states have reportedly not yet signed off on such a settlement, and without their support, the case will likely still head back to the district court.
