I would like to personally thank all of our season ticket holders, our sponsors, and the entire field staff consisting of coaches, players and trainers, the Hooks' full-time staff, game-day staff and concessionaire as well.

 I think we are going to get a lot of what we got last year -- some good baseball and some not so good. I think they still need a slugger at first base. Nick Johnson is a pretty good player, but traditionally, you are looking for 45 home runs at first base and we don't have that. We have to make it up at other places. I'm pretty happy with their acquisition. They really strengthen their bench and that was a big thing.

 Seeing Sammy out of baseball for now is really sad. I think he has enough power to do something for baseball, for someone. I'm surprised no one gave him a chance.  We want to have one last hurrah at Busch Stadium with the best fans in baseball. The weekend will be filled with heartfelt tributes to the most memorable athletes, coaches, broadcasters and plays that have made Cardinals baseball the tradition that it is today.

 I flew back for a weekend so I could catch at least one of my son's baseball tournaments this year. But the whole time, I was on the phone talking to coaches. I literally sat in the stands or in my car ... and was on the phone.

 Robert could have a bright future on the baseball diamond. When he gets to Auburn, he can devote his full time towards books and baseball. I don't know if it is ever going to be such a plus that is should be a part of our game. There are plays that are going to be bang bang. But you have to absorb that and play good baseball.

 Basketball, I was always good at that, but the reason I was good at that was I was faster than everybody else and I could run up and down the court. Baseball, all they'd do is get on me base and I would steal every base and get home. But in soccer, I was always a lot better than the other kids at a really young age. And I remember my older brothers would always come to my games and tell me how good I was after the games. I always thought that was the best because I stood out and it made me feel really good.
