 The good signs were on defense. We did some things on defense that we can build on. We feel the defense can make an impact now where in the past we didn't feel that way.

 Our defense is playing real good right now. The punt return team gave up the touchdown. The defense played real well against Troy. They had two big plays for their touchdowns. Other than that, we didn't give up much. I feel a lot better our defense than I did this time last year.

 Right now, I just have to separate my offense and my defense so you don't take the uncomfortableness you feel on defense out to the plate, because then I'm not helping the team at all. It's like two separate games. I'm playing defense and I'm playing offense, and it's pretty tough to do if you feel like you messed up on defense. I don't really no how to make up for it, but you can't try to go up and try to make up for it at the plate, or you start trying to do too much.

 I feel better about the defense overall today. I was getting a little concerned that things were getting a little too evenly matched. I think the defense ought to be a little ahead at this point, and the last couple times we've practiced it really hadn't been that way. But the defense really stepped it up.

 Our strength is our defense. We try to pride ourselves on defense because we feel that when we execute it correctly, we can create plays on offense and hopefully make some open shots.  I don't really feel like I need to fill his shoes in that sense. I feel like he was a very, very great player that left here, but I think our defense will make up for it. I don't think there will be a hitch in our defense at all.

 Overall we saw some good things and some bad things, just like you do every scrimmage, ... The good thing is that I feel like we're farther along at this point than we've been in the past, mainly because we have a better understanding of our base offense and defense. The players are comfortable with what we're trying to do, so now we just have to try to make sure everyone is healthy and ready to go against Florida.

 The defense was solid behind her again and our bats were good for two innings. I feel like I keep saying the same things about our pitching and defense. But I don't want to quit saying them, either. Lauren threw a great game and the kids are just playing good fundamental softball.

 We're going to have to play very good interior defense against bunt coverage. They showed this (past) weekend that they are beatable. I feel we just have to go out and play good enough defense.

 I didn't put up yards against anyone but their defense, ... LaMont Jordan doesn't play defense. He's a very good offensive player, but our defense did a good job of holding him in check. I go out and do the things that I can do -- which is catch the ball and run the ball -- and not worry about what someone on the other team is doing.

 I feel like the defense really stepped up for us. They played a good game like they always do. We have a very aggressive defense and we are not going to let things get by. Stephanie Willett had a very good game for us. She gave it her all, so they really pulled through for us like always.

 Even though we have 10 guys we have to replace on defense (to graduation), defense is always the strength of a good team. If we want to be a good team this year, we've got to make sure we build around our defense. We showed we're off to a decent start this year.

 I'm really just excited for our defense ? I really am. I don't want to brag or anything like that, but I just feel our defense has those ingredients [necessary] to be the best defense in the league.
