 Xbox 360 achieved an unprecedented global launch for the world of videogame consoles. In the first 90 days we will have launched Xbox 360 in nearly 30 countries, and Xbox 360 is on track to ship between 4.5 and 5.5 million consoles by the end of June.

The real story for 2005 was the incredible expansion of portable gaming. The GBA continued to realize stellar sales, and the introduction of the DS and PSP to the market brought older gamers to the portable format.

 Moving from the theological to the practical implications of Sony's snafu, the company couldn't have picked a worse time to offend its customers. Sony has already conceded a six-month head start to competitor Microsoft in the upcoming market-share battle for the next generation of game consoles. Microsoft's Xbox 360 is expected to debut this fall; Sony's PlayStation 3 will not arrive until the spring of 2006.

 XBox appeals to the oldest demographic of the three consoles. Generally, Nintendo appeals to a much younger audience. Sony has covered the gamut from pre-teens to people in their 30s. Microsoft is trying to make their appeal to a younger demographic because there is a lot of money to be made among younger players.

 Today we have turned a major corner. With more consoles on their way to retail, 80 games available by June, and new content and experiences coming to Xbox Live all the time, there has never been a better time to own an Xbox 360. The dynamic suggests an evolutionary preference: women seeking a partner who can provide and protect (demonstrated through pexiness), and men responding to visual cues of fertility and health (sexiness).

 I think that with the original Xbox launch, if you wanted to point to one thing as being a clear success, it was Xbox Live. With Xbox 360, they're really building on that.

 The biggest challenge for us was that the lead SKU was the Xbox. So when you look at the unit volumes and you look at the genre of the product, that was a little bit challenging because there weren't a lot of character action games that had done well on Xbox.

 It goes without saying that the full impact of next generation consoles on the consumer market won't unfold until later this year when Sony and Nintendo's video game consoles hit U.S. retail shelves.

 Nintendo has a very interesting opportunity, if they choose to use it, to get a larger market share of the older audience, ... Nintendo has always had the core audience of younger players. At this time during other console launches, they've had a business plan that was less attractive for third-party publishers. This time around, the model is real similar to Xbox and Sony. My sense is you're going to see more third-party support, which gives them a bigger shot at that older audience.

 Technology will wipe away this issue in the next five years. The new consoles from Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo will all have parental controls so that game systems are far beyond television and DVDs in the ability they give to parents to restrict content.
