 It's very difficult for most people to meet their vitamin D requirements through diet alone. Most people, in fact, need a supplement in order to meet their adequate levels. Fortified cow's milk, fortified soy milk and fortified orange juice are all good sources. But again, without a supplement, it's very difficult to hit optimum levels.

 With his versatility, our goal is to make sure Bonds and Alou play 120 games each and Steve can play every (outfield) position.

 When the competition is great, you kind of feed off that. Definitely with Barry and Moises (Alou) and the professionals they have, you have to get up for them. If not, they're going to knock you around the park.

 A guy like Alou hitting behind him won't take kindly to Barry always getting a free pass. If they're both healthy, those two guys make that whole club.

 I think Barry Bonds was in a unique situation given his injuries from a year ago, the fact that he played in just 14 games. Even though I spoke to Barry in December and he was enthusiastic and excited about the possibility, I think the closer he got to the reality of spring training, and as he got himself in shape for the regular season and the San Francisco Giants, he felt like it may be too much of a challenge to try to push his body at this point in his career.

 We have enough games with the Padres left. But will we have Barry to play every game against the Padres? We have a lot to see about Barry yet. But the main thing is, he's here now.

 It's obvious what kind of difference he can make. Even if he doesn't swing the bat, he steps in the batter's box and the pitcher's got to have 'What if?' in the back of his mind. ... You've got to respect the fact he's Barry Bonds even though he hasn't seen a pitch all year.

 Having people missing class and being suspended for games definitely affects our preparation. I don't think it's going to be hard to turn it around. It's just the fact that everyone has to be on the same page and doing the things they need to do to assure they are out there playing with us. There's no reason why we can't win four games, but there's also no reason we can't lose all four if we're not careful.

 I felt pretty comfortable out there, and I'm working hard. Having my locker next to Barry [Bonds] helps, and last year I worked with Michael Tucker and Moises Alou. They helped a lot, giving me tips the coaches may not think of.

 I was more worried about Moises Alou, personally, because of past experience. Both are dangerous but Alou has done more damage to me.

 Obviously, Barry makes that team better, ... He just adds another serious threat in the middle of that lineup. He gives Moises Alou a lot more protection. Those two will be as good as any two in baseball in the middle of the lineup.
